I have had a cough for around 7 days, the last 24 hours have been a nightmare, i am constantly coughing and have pulled my ribs, stomach and getting a pain in my head when i cough. I am 5 weeks pregnant so darent really take anything but then again might risk it cos cant cope with this - i have never experienced anything like this. Any suggestions plllllease

My mum used to slice an onion and layer it up with sugar (wrap in clingfilm cos it stinks the fridge out) and leave for a few hours until a syrup has formed. A few teaspoons of this will help a tickly cough become more chesty and productive (yuk) - apparently this is more than an old wives tale, onions and garlic etc are good for coughs.

Have you been to your gp. They might be able to give you something to ease the discomfort. I'm not pg but have been coughing for 4 weeks and pulled a few muscles, gp gave me strong painkillers and anti-biotics to zap the infection. Its crap isn't it, I really feel for you.

hot drinks are good as they help loosen the mucous in the chest. If you don't want to have too much caffiene then hot water is ok.
