So I paid £350 for an office-based procedure of tooh whitening. It was pants. The dentist then gave me some home kit to continue at home, although I'd made it clear that I wanted only the 1 hour thing not the home kit as I can't easily find the time. He also had the cheek to charge me an extra £175 for this. To cut a long story short, I asked for a refund.

Did it make a real difference, Loopy? Were you told you'd need to carry on at home too? If he'd told me I would need to carry on at home (24 sessions of 4 hours each, that's nearly 100 hours!) I wouldn't have gone for it in the first place. I got my money back but it was an embarrassing conversation.

Yes the results where very noticeable, i don't regret having it done, but wouldn't do it again because of the pain.

He did say i could 'top up' at home and sent me home with the bleach that was included in the price. I wasn't told to do it as often as you though, 100 hours .

To be honest, it sounds like your dentist was not straight with you, it sounds like he sort of manipulated you into buying an extra kit for £175 that you did not want, so well done you for getting your money back.

PS did your teeth hurt after the treatment, and was it the ZOOM that you had done?

It wasn't ZOOM, something else but I can't recall. The kit was Optident but I think the original stuff was different. My teeth aren't hurting for the time being (since yesterda). I got the whole £350 refunded and gave the extra kit back so didn't pay the further £175 either. He was trying to get me to pay at least for those moulds they made but I stood my ground.

Well at least you got it for free in the end have you noticed much difference in your teeth color?

None at all. They just look clean (he gave them a polish at the end and I think most of the effect was in fact from that). My kids didn't notice a difference and neither did DH. Most importantly, I didn't. No Hollywoood smile for me.

Seeings as you got your money back why don't you consider having zoom done? Most offices do it now, and a lot of city's do it quite cheaply in specialist clinics, i was gutted to find out that a clinic in Liverpool where doing the ZOOM whitening for £250, weeks after i paid £550 for mine

I can deffo recommend ZOOM, but it does hurt, well it hurt me at least, my teeth where amazingly sensitive afterwards.

Thanks, Loopy. I'll research a bit more before trying again. It does sound as if my dentist didn't know what he was doing OR didn't explain all the limitations beforehand.
