Colonoscopy when breastfeeding

Has anyone had one? Looks like I'll need a colonoscopy some time soon after I've given birth (I'm only 24 weeks pg at the moment). Just wondering if it has an impact on milk supply. Do you still have to take Fleet before hand?

Would the sedation affect the baby?

I'd ask your gastroenterologist. Though I think sedatives would pass into breastmilk.

My MIL is having one soon as was offered hypnotherapy rather than sedation/anaesthetic which might solve the problem if it's available.

I am a wimp and I don't think I could face it in the knowledge that I was not getting the "standard" level of drugs! Also, there's a possibility they'll want to do an endoscopy too, in which case I think sedation is a must.

MIL refused for the same reason

Personally I'd want a general - had colonoscopy yesterday under GA and it was so nice to be oblivious.

Bet you do have to take the disgusting stuff though. For me that was the worst part. Sympathies...

I had one but my DS2 was over one. Have you tried the drugline bit of the BfN? If they don't have the answer they have a specialist pharmacist who can email or ring you back.

The obviously told me to pump and dump blah but it turned out not to be the case for a one year old.

Poor you, having to do the manic laxative thing while breastfeeding a small baby. That'll be ten litres of clear apple juice, please.
