DD has chicken pox; do I still go to the ball?

Had to happen really as a fair few of her nursery friends have had them or currently have them, including her best friend. She was fine this morning - although I did only see her very briefly to give her a quick kiss and cuddle before I went off to work. DH showered and dressed her and she was fine.

But he got a phone call this afternoon from nursery, ad the satff said that they though she had chicken pox. They'd seen a few spots, a couple with blisters. But she was in good spirits and happy with herself, so no need to collect her early.

So, DH did pick her up a bit early anyway and brought her home. When I got back I thought I would have a look - and true enough her front and bak, her neck, hair line and her bottom have quite a lot of spots on them. They are even in her "bits" too Think they are starting to itch a bit too, but she definitely isn't poorly - laughing and running about, talking non stop.

She's in bed now.

But tomorrow afternoon I am supposed to be having my hair highlighted and my eye brows waxed. My dad is supposed to be coming over to look after her for the hour or two it will take.

And Saturday night me and DH have tickets for a ball. We paid a fair bit of money for them, and have had it planned for weeks. My mum and dad are supposed to be babysitting.

But do I go to these two things?

How will DD be by then? At the moment she isn't poorly - is she likely to start to feel poorly?

Oooh - and now I just feel all itchy everywhere!

I have heard back from NHS.

Once you have had chicken pox you are immune, and do not carry the virus. There is no chance of me or DH being able to pass this on to anyone ourselves.

DH and I have both had chicken pox, so we are therefore save to leave the house as normal, if we wish/need to.

It is only the infected person, and anyone who hasn't had chicken pox, but have been in direct contact with the child, who are at risk of catching chicken pox.

Shingles is deifintely not caused by exposure to chicken pox.

I hope that helps out anyone else in a similar situation, as to what they should/shouldn't be doing.

DD has a few more spots this morning - which she is happily counting, bless her. They are a bit itchy for her at the moment - given her piriton to help. They are not really bothering her yet though and, at present, she is still well and in good spirits.

hulababy - just popping in to support you!

Hulababy · 06/05/2005 09:22

Thanks katzguk.

DD is doing well.

I went to bed last night feeling like an ogre of a mum. But DD is up and about this morning. She's been prancing round in her snow white dress, singing to a Disney CD. And she is now painting and making a good old mess.

Yes, she has spots and they itch a bit - but right now she is not poorly at all. Anything but!

She isn't going to like having to stay in much though. We were supposed to be taking her to a birthday party on Sunday - which will have to be cancelled now.

She also wants grandad to come and look after her today - first hing she asked was when he was coming. She doesn;t get chance to spend time with grandad - just the two of them - much and loves it when she can. He spoils her rotton!

I am aware she may well go down hill, and we will monitor the situation. But right now she is happy as happy.

AW bless her; DD wasn't happy that DH went out with your DH - and the girls couldn't play! Apparantly "that's not fair mummy!". LOL

We must sort something out once the spots have gone. You'll be on mat leave very soon, yes?

Fingers crossed Aero. My dad is coming over later whilst I have my hair done. DD is very excited about it

DD is currently painting - but all her drawings have to have some chicken pox on them too. So every picture has random pink dots all over them Bless her!

Strangely enough, thats pretty much exactly what dd (rising 5) did too - all her dolls had to have spots drawn with make-up! I must say she was a great nurse and looked after them well - must've felt a certain sympathy!

Hulababy · 06/05/2005 10:32

Oh don't gibve her ideas; I can see baby Annabel and crew all lined up for their spots.

DD is now ecited. DH dropped in with some food for lunch for us, and some calamine lotion - and it is PINK! DD is overjoyed

Aero · 06/05/2005 12:02

rofl at her antics. Baby Annabel was first in the queue here too for spots!

sparklymieow · 06/05/2005 12:13

thanks for clearing this up for us Hulababy. It least I can get out and about without feeling guilty, Ds is feeling a bit better today, he looks terrible though...

Hulababy · 06/05/2005 12:20

Good to hear that mieow; ingers crossed he keeps improving.

Dd is lucky so far as they are mainly on her torso and hair line. Just one of her face. Sure more wll come though.
