GP has prescribed dd with amoxycillin for an infection.... she has given me a bottle, and told to give 5ml 3xday - is this not too much for a 9 month old baby?????

How many mg in 5ml?

Usual dose is 125mg three times a day for a child of any age under 10.

125mg/5ml

just thought this was high as only give 2.5ml of calpol/nurofen etc

I know, it does seem odd that it's the same dose for an infant as a 9 year old but I checked for you in the BNF and it's fine.

my ds had amoxysillin when he was 3 weeks old and he had to have 2.5ml 3 times a day. So 5ml doesn't seem that much for a 9mth old. Doctor told me that once baby is 4-5 months old you can give 2 x 2.5mls of calpol if needed.
