Feeling run down, any ideas for cures?

I had a terrible cold last week and this week I seem to have a couple of other things wrong,

Throat aching, rather than being sore
headaches
constantly exhausted
mouth ulcers
breaking out in spots

I popped to the doctors today and he said that I am very run down and need to rest. This is not possible though as I have 2 dc (3 if you include DH) a stressful job and house to run. Plus I am having a few slight problems with dd2 at the minute.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to buck myself up/make myself feel better?

Try and get to bed earlier. Sleep is one of the best cures. Have you tried a tonic like Floradix?

Any chance you could take some time out to go for a walk/stroll on a sunny evening and then go to bed early?

I find a really good vitamin supplement helps me, like Biocare.

I hope you feel more perky soon.

Make sure you are eating well. Lay off the booze for a while (if you drink that is). Take a good multi vitamin and maybe even some extra vit C. Also some rescue remedy to help keep the stress at bay.

The best thing you can do is go to bed earlier and get as much sleep as you can. Buy yourself a magazine or a good book as an incentive to get there.

I know it is easier said than done - says I who is sitting on the sofa at 12:17am when I should be in bed (I'm in Australia btw) but I am sure you will be feeling better in a week or so.

Did the Dr check your iron levels?

I would also vouch for Floradix - have used this on a number of occasions. With it being in liquid form the iron is absorb easily plus it is packed full of other stuff.

Try and treat yourself in small, manageable ways - even a face pack in front of the TV. If you can't get out, could you get a massage therapist to visit you?

thank you for all your replies.

I am still feeling rough, exhausted etc. This morning I got some berrocca (that is the most convenient as it is one tablet a day). So, I'll just see how I feel once that has kicked in.

Mimzan, I have made a point now of having earlier nights instead of watching crap on the goggle box.

Mung, I've started going out for a stroll in my lunch break.

Eselle, I have stopped drinking alcohol and I'm drinking alot more water now and taking the berrocca on a morning. I have been lent a book so I'm going to settle down with that.

Doodledo, no the doctor didn't check my iron levels. Tonight Dh is going out so I am going to have a really long soak in spa products, curl up on the sofa and watch a chick flick (which is not me, but for some reason I really fancy it, might even get a bar of galaxy too .

How long would you leave it though if I am still getting the headaches and my throat is still bad?

A few days of Spatone works well for me when I'm run down - you can buy it in Boots where it's often on 3 for 2.

I get mouth ulcers too - Listerine mouthwash keeps them at bay I find.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

Lovemyshoes · 14/05/2009 13:40

Thanks Kingrolo.

I could cope with the throat, spots etc, but its the headaches, and being exhausted etc that are getting me down.

take more than one Berocca. When you are really run down you should have mega doses. You will know when you have had enough as you will get loose stools. I would up your dose to 3 - 4 tablets.

Well ladies,

I've just been to the doctors this morning, and he says that i have a throat infection and because it is so bad it has gone onto my chest.

So, I'm on 8 x 250mg pencillin a day for a week. I'm at work and really need to go home.
