Feels like a huge lump in my throat, what could it be?

Have been run down and headachey for a few days now and started getting a sore throat yesterday with a weird feeling quite low down in my throat, that feels like something is stuck in there.
Every time I swallow, eat, drink it feels like there is something in the way and it feels painful most of the way down my oesophagus.
What could it be?

It could be time to see you GP.

Speculation will only make you think it is something more than a throat infection / tonsilitous.

I have no tonsils as I had them out a few years ago, and the pain/lump is lower down.

I had a lump in my throat years ago and was convinced it was something nasty. Had a barium swallow and everything. Turned out to be allergies! So it may not be something awful. I get a sore throat with my hayfever sometimes and feel shattered so it could be something like that. GP will know.

Thanks.
Have no fever so feel a bit stupid going to GP.

I get this sometimes right before I develop a bad cold.

Right, i get pain where you describe when i have a cold, i think the oesophagus gets irratated. Alternatively, the lump feeling could be anxiety, or you may have scratched/burned your throat with food

irritated

Thanks everyone.

Yes it does feel as though my oesophagus is irritated and swollen. Have just eaten supper and every mouth-full was painful and hard to swallow, I could feel it all the way down to my stomach, as if I hadn't chewed anything and was trying to swallow things whole!
I have never experienced anything like ti before, so was just a bit concerned.
I have never had an allergic reaction to anything before either, or hayfever, so I guess it could be just about anything!
