Kidney infection?

Does anyone know if you always feel really really ill with a kidney infection?

Have had UTI symptoms for a week or two and just went to Drs today (silly I know but I have a long history of UTI symptoms with no infection) - she suspects kidney infection now as I have a pain in my back on one side.

I feel pretty much OK though except for pain and being a bit tired.

Does that rule out a kidney infection??

(am waiting for sample to come back, on antibiotics in meantime)

TIA

when you say pain do you mean proper pain or ache?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 30/04/2009 18:24

just a bit of achy burning really!

I've had a kidney infection that was painful without me feeling ill, and also one which made me feel like I had flu but with no back pain. I think symptoms for anything can vary, and ABs sound a very wise choice for you at the moment.

Did the Dr do a dip test while you were there?

Moosy · 30/04/2009 18:26

Oh, and kidney pain doesn't tend to go away when you press it like muscular pain does IYSWIM.

When I was pregnant I had a kidney infection that i didn't really notice - kept weeing and had a pain in my lower back (v similar to being pregnant). Get some antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon

kidney (?) pain was worse yesterday, just sore in bladder and groin more today. I tried pressing the bit on my back that hurt earlier and it was sore right through to the front, so I suspect it IS my kidney that was hurting.

Dr didn't do dip test.

Thanks for the good wishes.

i go through this nonsense all the time.

at moment have weird internal achy pain and flank pain but i also get uti symptoms with negative dip tests etc so usually give it a few days to see if it'll develop.

it's only been a couple of weeks since last course of anti bs

total pain in the ass

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 03/05/2009 09:24

I feel your pain, have had this for about 10 years..then didn't have any problems for 2 years..until last week...

I didn't feel really ill when I had a kidney infection - just tired, really thirsty and with a pain which just got increasingly worse to the point where I couldn't laugh without being in agony. I think normally ABs should knock it on the head quite quickly

Ballina · 03/05/2009 09:50

UTI's can make you feel very ill, fluey with abdominal pains. They are not nice. The antibiotics should sort it out but you might feel crappy for a week.

blinks · 03/05/2009 13:04

well i just got mine confirmed.

GP advised me to get a daily lower dose of anti bs over a longer period to try to decrease the amount of infections i get.
