Right in the middle of a bout now actually.

I've not had it like this for a few years, and I can't imagine what has triggered it off.

I first started suffering with it in 1989 after a bout of gastro-enteritis.

The remedy that worked for me was the homeopathic remedy Colocynthis 6 which cleared it up in a few days, and didn't come back for months. I am currently dosing myself now.

The food triggers used to be tea, coffee, alcohol and onions (not necessarily in that order )

It's the nausea that I can't stand!

girlandboy · 29/04/2009 19:08

Oh, and the gp gave me Fibogel and Colpermin if I remember right, which helped but didn't cure me.

candyfluff · 29/04/2009 19:14

Oh you poor thing.

I've never tried the aloe vera gel so I can't comment on that. I did have bloods taken years ago, and there was nothing else it could have been except for IBS. However I've not had a bout for ages so it didn't occur to me until yesterday that this is what this was.

I should have realised I was in for a bout on Saturday because I felt dreadful. I'd also been constipated last week (again for no reason) and I've got sodding piles now, just to add insult to injury. Felt incredibly sick last night and then the squitters from hell this morning. Sorry for the graphic details, but it's dreadful isn't it?

Rooibos tea is very settling on the stomach and is also anti-spasmodic, as is peppermint tea. I'm drinking gallons at the moment.

Hope you feel better soon. Once you work out the triggers then you will feel more in control.

Oh yes, orange juice was a trigger too. I'd forgotten about that one.

candyfluff · 29/04/2009 19:42

i think bread and chocolate are my triggers gp has told me to keep a food diary
am drinking plenty of peppermint tea too
am on colofac before a meal 3 times a day
i had ibs 5 yrs ago and i nearly went for a camera up the bum thingy but it settled down and so i didnt go but its all started up again 3 weeks so far
im wondering what triggered it again ,been quite stressed ds had to taken to hospital and i had done 3 lots of ab's for an abcess and tooth infection,so maybe thats what started it all off again?
i dont have the squits more normal poo but so much of it its got to be seen to be believed ,do you get back ache with it too ?

OP posts:
girlandboy · 29/04/2009 19:49

Darn it! Chocolate for you and alcohol for me. How fair is that?

I expect you're right - I bet it's a combination of ab's and stress that's started it off again.

Fortunately I don't seem to get backache, but I do look 6 months pregnant with the big swollen belly.

BTW - do you think we are the only 2 people on Mumsnet that have IBS? If so, IT'S NOT FAIR!

littlerach · 29/04/2009 19:54

I think I have IBS as I have all the symptoms
I seemt to suffer from it mainly due to anxiety.
I have colpermin (sp) and it stops the tummy aches a lot.
I mainly get the runs, nausea and tummy ache, rarely constipation (think that's TMI!!)
I did cut out cheese at Christmas and have been slowly re inrtoducing it.

Sunshine78 · 29/04/2009 19:59

Just wanted to say started drinking the aloe vera - symptoms cleared up for first time in years stoppped and came back expensive but worth it.

Also have tried to avoid trigger foods too much bread or choc for me.

Have also found when in pain massaging my tummy - like baby massage helps.

littlerach · 29/04/2009 20:01
