Any A&E nurses here? Dh has gashed his finger across the finger nail.

The neighbours have persuaded him to let them take him to hospital as he is in a lot of pain and it's still bleeding.
What will they do? They reckon the nail can be stitched.

I'm not a medic, but DH mangled the tops of his fingers about a month ago. They removed the nails that were very badly damaged. One was sort of pieced back together again, but the damage was to the nail itself, not the finger underneath it.

MrsHappy · 24/04/2009 18:55

The hospital might glue it

(not a nurse, though)

TheFallenMadonna · 24/04/2009 18:55

Hope he's OK BTW.

Berrie · 24/04/2009 19:03

Thanks Don't know how damaged the finger is underneath...

They will remove the nail if they need to assess/stitch a deeper cut under the nail.

Poor him sounds sore.

Berrie · 24/04/2009 20:02

Thanks...he just rang...they are going to stitch it.

He'll be sorted in no time. DH cut down one inch through the top of his thumb, and made a pretty good mess of the fingers on his hand to. Had to be sorted out under general. We were surprised at how quickly he healed.

Berrie · 24/04/2009 20:15

Ooo ow!

I know. Really gross. Result of being an utter idiot too, so also had the embarassment of confessing how it happened to the many HCPs involved.

Berrie · 24/04/2009 20:22

Yeah dh was being stupid too.

They are going to remove the nail and repair the nail bed underneath and do and x ray .

TheFallenMadonna · 24/04/2009 21:06

Are they doing it tonight?

Berrie · 24/04/2009 21:15

Yes...no idea when he'll get back...or how come to think of it.

Well, that's good. DH was sent home with his forked thumb and wasn't fixed until the next evening.

Can he get a taxi?

Berrie · 24/04/2009 21:40

He'll have to. the neighbour sat in while I nipped up to the cashpoint for him.
