I have had sore wrists/hands for a few weeks and am starting to get very worried indeed

I have the strangest, achiest wrists/hands/fingers. Sometimes accompanied by a numbness or pins and needle type feeling. It can be on the inside of my wrist and shooting pains down into my thumb, sometimes the outside of my wrist with shooting pains into my little finger. It can't be something as simple as carpal tunnel as it's on the outside too. Also getting sore finger joints intermittently.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes wakes me in the night. The pain's not there all the time, comes and goes throughout the day and sometimes isn't there at all.

I've plucked up the courage to go to the doctors today and he has ordered blood tests but not for another week and then a week for the results. He said he is testing for rheumatoid arthritis or other joint infections. He said the lack of swelling though (had a good feel, I haven't felt swelling either) was a good sign and he didn't expect it was rheumatoid arthritis.

I'm getting in such knots about it. My great aunt has MS and that started with odd aches and pins and needles. Also have a family history of arthritis.

I keep imagining terrible things.

There ends self pitying post.

I know this is a mega old thread but did you ever get a resolution @ShowOfHands

I haven’t managed to read the full thread, sorry, but I had this during lockdown and was similarly tested for RA as a close relative has it. Results came back clear and after a consultation with a physio on the phone, some physio exercises sent to me by email, it went away.

Seems to have been largely musculoskeletal; but I have noticed I seem to get it coming back a bit when my cycle is going a bit weird. I think I’m in peri and my oestrogen had dropped, so I wonder if it’s related to cycle changes - in my case peri/approaching menopause?

Agh! Didn’t see it was a zombie thread. Hope my experience helps you anyway @Fadeout83!

Thank you! Here I am reviving all sorts of zombie threads 🤪 this is very useful, thanks. My random tingling in hands and feet and some vague aches and pains in my left arm remain unresolved. Back to the GP tomorrow. I did have an MRI which my neurologist assured me was not indicative of anything sinister and suggested it’s possibly a post viral thing. I did have a mighty sore throat a couple of weeks ago which is now gone so who knows.

Would love to know which physio exercises helped!

Mine was bilateral hand pain, so it was lots of stretching, moving and gentle rotating exercises for the hands - you can probably find some similar ones online, eg for avoiding RSI.

Hello. I couldn’t read and run. The same thing happened to me, when my son was about eight months old.
I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel but also something called De Quervains Tensosynovitis- that’s the pain down the thumb and wrist (due to breastfeeding hold, picking up child, rocking them etc). I wore splints and it did away - that sounds like it to me x

Newmummyinlockdown · 11/10/2021 03:36

Sorry, I should say aswell it causes numbness and mine was bilateral. It came on quite suddenly too x

Emmasian94 · 13/10/2022 00:46

OP what happened? I’m going through similar now. Going out of my mind with worry. x

Ask to check the uric acid levels if they didn’t . I’ve found out a while ago after 10+ y of agony that mine were elevated so it’s probably gout . None of my bloody doctors ever listened to me or checked that ( I have multiple diagnosed conditions ) until an urologist did because of something else . When I was being diagnosed for my other condition years ago I did have it taken by a rheumatologist that ruled out rheumatoid arthritis etc . Then it was normal but at some point in the last 10+ y it’s gotten elevated probably since I’ve had increasing similar pain for a very long time and now it’s in both of my shoulders and left wrist , both hands , feet etc . I need to now go to rheumatologist and deal with it and pray an acid lowering medication would help since I’m in a lot of pain all over often . At times I can hardly move if I’ve earlier done say cleaning or anything physical really . Hope you find the answer !
