My brothers gf has just spent a week in hospital after being struck down by a mysterious illness.

She was taken to hospital on the Saturday with severe stomach pains but sent home again. My brother tok her back on the Monday and she was kept in.

Symptoms included stomach pain, problems opening bowels, severe dizzyness, anemia, and mobility problems.

Tests showed that her bowel was slightly swollen but they said that was just because she was a little constipated.

Then they suddenly decided it could be something serious (what i don't know) and tested her spinal fluid but this came back clear.

She is now home but cannot walk unaided or really do much for herself at all.

The doctors are now just saying that it must be a virus or something she picked up on a recent trip to Mexico. They have on idea what it is, how long she will be afected of anything.

Apparently they aren't going to do anymore tests just give her physio.

No news yet. Probably won't get to speak to my brother until tonight as he can't go and see her until after he finnishes work at around lunchtime. I think he fels crappy about it but work already let him have the week off at short notice when she was first taken in.

Fingers tightly crossed though.

Hi Nutty - How are things?

NervousNutty · 28/04/2009 15:52

Thanks for asking CT

Finally managed to speak to my brother and his gf had the mri yesterday which was clear.
They now think that she was having severe migrains, and also that she has had spinal fluid leaking from where they did the lumbar puncture last week.

They have started her on meds for the migrains and also caffine supplements as apparently this helps aswell. She is doing alot better and is being discharged today

So pleased that it was non of the things that they were previously thinking.

Wow that's a relief, glad she's on the mend!

Maybe she had a bad reaction to the flu?
Mexico sounds like a giant pit of disease at the moment . Glad she is feeling better.
