underactive thyroid and weight issues. Anyone any experience?

I suspect I may have an underactive thyroid and am going to ask my doctor about it but just wonderered if anyone out there has ever had this condition and when it was treated, what effect did it have on your weight?

Managing my hypothroidism has stopped the weight gain (I went up 2 dress sizes in a couple of months) but it didn't magically get rid of it (which is a bugger) I still find that my metabolism is quite slow, but tbh I'm not the most active person anyway so it's probably partly self infilcted.

i have been hyper and hypo. The medication, as serenity says, stabilises your weight but it doesn't all fall off sadly. Life's not fair is it !
