What is biting me?

OK I am really losing it.
I am covered in tiny red bites - what on earth is it?
They seem to bite during the day - ankles, legs and waistline so far. I have no pets and it's been going on around 3 weeks. Seem to bite when I'm at home. What could it be and what should I do?

Did previous owners/tenants of your home have cats? Ankles and legs suggest flea bites. Or midges - they like to bite where your clothes are tightest.

If they are tiny red and raised probably fleas - could have come in from a neighbours pet? They can jump pretty high hence ankles up to legs and onto sofa enabling them to chomp you higher up? Put flea powder down and hoover up.

You can buy general bug bombs - cans which you let off and vacate the room for a while. I had to use them a few years ago as I am allergic to bites and I was getting bitten really badly at night - no idea by what - was not fleas maybe spiders. It was fab and zapped all the nasties

Yuk
I had a cat until about 4 years ago but pretty sure she didn't have fleas.
That bug bomb sounds like a good idea - where do I get one of those? Or alternatively will I get flea powder in a pet shop?

Thanks ladies!

You can get the bug bomb in some supermarkets, or at the pet shop, and probably in the vets. Easier to use than flea powder, but very toxic, so make sure you take living things out of the room first (it'll have full instructions) and do it on a bright, breezy day as you'll have to open the windows for a while.

Good luck.

Thanks oldlady - will look out for one. Whatever they are, I want rid of them!
Thanks for the advice both of you

It sounds like a flea. I lived in a house several years ago, I didn't have any pets but a flea turned up from somewhere. Weird!

There's a Home Blitz - Flea Bomb Home Fumigation available here: do read the instructions!

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 16/04/2009 21:49

Or, you could pop to Wilco's, buy some flea powder for a couple of pounds and sprinkle it on the floor. IME, it works just as well as the expensive stuff.

Think I'll order that bomb but also get some powder with my tesco order tomorrow in the meantime as I've been bitten about 20 times in the last hour. Think they have moved onto my chair...

Check the Tesco website - they might sell the bombs too. If it is fleas, they'll be in your soft furnishings as well as your carpet. Here's the flea life-cycle.

I did - only powder and collars and such.
I now have 4 bombs ordered - need to blitz the place. Will check out that link - hope it doesn't freak me out...
