has anyone ever had this or known someone who has. My brother in law has just snapped his playing football. They have put him in a cast for 3 weeks and told him to come back then and they will decide what to do then. He is a roofer and worried about working in the future etc. thanks

yes, I have. I was treated in a series of casts as part of a study on differences between surgical intervention and healing without (basically they put on a series of casts as tendon heals, bending ankles up a litte further each cast and lots of physio after). Have to say it then rebroke and had it surgically strenthened using tendon from big toe. Since then no probs whatsoever.

I snapped my achilles tendon playing netball. I had an op to repair it the day after it broke. I was then put in plaster. They set my foot with my toes pointing downwards. After 2 weeks with my foot in this position, I had to go back to the hospital for them to remove the plaster, reposition my foot, then replace the plaster. I had this done 3 times in total, so was in plaster for a total of 6 weeks. I then had to have quite a lot of physio.

my DH had this and was treated as the others posted- a series of casts gradually changing foot position- he is now over 2 years on and did not need an operation... and reckons he was totally pain-free after 18 months... the extreme pain you BIL is in at the moment will be much better after approx 6 weeks or so- and ease off completely most days well before the 18 months!!!!! My DH just reckons he had general discomfort for the 18 months-
