Migraine, really sore boobs, lack of ability to make decisions or concentrate, had pronounced ovulation type cramps mid cycle, heightened anxiety, feeling wound up tightly like a guitar string, foggy headed, feeling like I'm in dream world, irritatability, feelings of hopelessness...

Am I going crazy or do I appear to have sever PMT for some reason this month? The timing fits (day 20 of cycle) and I'm definitely not pg.

I've had mild PMT before but nothing like this.

Did I mention that my typing and spelling have gone to pot too?

I had those symptoms not long after TTC and I now suspect an early MC or some other weird hormonal shift. If this is a one off don't worry to much. If not, def go and see your doctor. Too many of us put up with terrible symptoms and therefore there's no cure yet.

Are you on the pill? IME the pill made my PMT worse, but mine were mental rather than physical symptoms (raging lunatic!).

I'm bumping this as this is exactly what I was going to post about!

I am sure I read a thread a month or so ago but Ive forgotten some of the advice

ive tried and continue to try multi vits, exercise, taking it easy, but once a month i get so depressed i cry and feel terribly emotional - and once i come on those feelings go. I also get spots on my chin.

i feel it is time to see a doc but id like some advice from mumsnetters about what to ask for or avoid?

hope that helps op too?

I recommend Vitamin b and magnesium. It helps me, give it a while to kick in though.

newgirl · 13/04/2009 18:15

amapoleon - do you need more than is found in the multi vits such as wellwoman? i take that but im not sure how much good it does

bumping with interest

I had awful PMT - massive mood swings, weight gain, acne for two weeks per month then heavy periods with awful cramps - and went on pill. Fixed it within weeks. I'm on marvelon.

newgirl · 13/04/2009 18:52

wingandprayer - that is exactly my symptoms - so marvelon sounds a good option - thanks!

Well, if it's of any use I am in the process of reading a book called "Overcoming PMS The Natural Way" by Marilyn Glenville PhD. In the last few days I have

a) cut out alcohol
b) cut out sugar
c) cut out 'white' foods such as white flour, bread, pasta and stuck to wholemeal/wholewheat

I have also invested in the following supplements

  1. Magnesium Ok (which includes lots of other vits/minerals)
  2. Agnus Castus - a hormone balancing herb
  3. Dong Quai - another hormone one
  4. Siberian Ginseng - to boost energy.

I have also been drinking a lot more water and I have noticed an improvement in my energy and mood already. I was pretty desperate as I was put on prozac (fluoxetine) for six months only by the GP and needed to sort something out for when they ran out!

Exercise is the next hurdle once the school hols are over and I hope to post about an improvement in the not too distant future!

newgirl · 13/04/2009 18:54

lisa - i have done the first three and im having 3 and 5

agnus castus sounds familiar from the earlier thread - where do you buy it?

lisasimpson · 13/04/2009 18:56

I got mine from Holland and Barrett but you can also get it online.
Just realised there is no no. 4!

newgirl · 13/04/2009 18:58

i thought you had cut 4 for some reason (lots of sex? handstands?)

lisasimpson · 13/04/2009 19:03

not since the pms!

Gentle · 13/04/2009 19:10

Some combined contraceptive pills can help. I heart Yasmin.

lostinthecitylover · 13/04/2009 19:27

starflower oil has helped me

369thegoosedrankwine · 13/04/2009 20:01

Exercise helps me a lot.
