just a twist? can he bear any weight on it at all?

blametheparents · 09/04/2009 20:57

Ice it very two hours. Rest it. Keep it elevated. Bandage if necessary
RICE
(rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation)
Hope he is ok. Not too much swearing I hope!

if still swollen in morning- get checked at hospital.
i slipped in snow on feb3rd- and had 3 weeks in plaster- still aches/swollen now!

(he may also have bruising that won't show for a couple of days... mine appeared in the week after- and ran the whole length of my foot...nowhere near my ankle!!!)

zanzibar - elasticated bandage.

Serious point and one of my absolute rules in our house. Nothing is is to be placed, left or rested on the stairs. It is very dangerous. My wife used to put piles of papers on the steps. Not now.

I am with your husband. Stairs must be clear at all times.

Hope he gets better soon.

Diclofenac pain killers are good for this sort of ligament/joint/muscle pain but needs a prescription.

hotcrossllama · 09/04/2009 21:32

if he has torn a ligament it need to be sorted very very quickly

I would get it checked by a doctor tomorrow and in the meantime rest, stabilise, ice

I have just started physio for an untreated torn ankle ligament six months ago (stairs + rollerblade) which I didn't bother seeing anyone about and has "healed" badly with continued pain and weakness

someone on here recently said ligaments MUST be sorted within 48 hours

last year dh torn knee ligament -- four week cast

sorry to be dramatic

he is the one who stacks toys on the stairs in the vague hope they will be picked up by kids on the way to bed...i had told him it was a hopeless and stpid idea.
ice in whisky seems to be helping.

why do accidents and illnesses always happen just before high days and bholidays. will try to get him to a dr next week sometime.

zanzibar - hope your DH is not feeling too bad (I suspect a very stuff ankle this morning) but I hope he stops putting toys on the stairs now and puts them away instead.

Maybe the kids need some easy storage bins to put stuff in?
