My toe hurts. I realise this is the archetypal trivial ailment, but in all seriousness, at what point should I seek advice?

It started hurting yesterday after wearing some too-high heeled shoes I can barely walk today, and have a very pronounced limp. It's quite a sharp constant pain.

Anyone else had this, is it just a sprain do you think....?

I feel silly at the thought of going to the doctor and announcing 'my toe hurts'!!!

oh I'd give it a good few days.. you've probably bruised it??

but I know what you mean.. and we all seem to put these things off.. friend of mine had a funny patch on her toenail.. wasn't something she'd just go to gp for.. so she mentioned it 2 years later yes two whole years when she remembered it when she was seeing gp about something else.

It was a fungle thing and she'd let it go on for so long that it took 6 months worth of treatment to sort out!!

Sorry I'm assuming it's not a weirdy colour and if you press toenail it goes from whilte to pink quickly and all that. didn't want you to advise to wait and see for a few days if it's falling off or something

Thanks BCNS, no funny colours, just pain. I reckon arthritis?!

Ooh crikey i shouldn't have been so flippant.

I got a terrible hurty big toe once and everyone laughed and said it was gout (I had rather a rep as a hard drinking red meat guzzling kind of girl). It's actually very nasty though and DH may have it...

However as you had the heels on yesterday in all seriousness it's probably just bruised.

I took some wine earlier, for medicinal purposes of course, as well! '

Hallo I hope your toe is feeling better. my big toe hurts too. I sadly havent been wearing heels but do wear the same old same old boots day in day out and wondered if it was that. It really aches if I kneel or sit with that knee bent in any way on the floor. Have had for the past 3 weeks or so and hasnt gone yet. Keep thinking about doctor but hate patronising tone that Im likely to hear. taking some wine therapy at the moment. all three ds's in bed - 11month old had serious puking incidents earlier and Im in dire need of some medicinal wine!!

I am pleased to report that my 'gout' has now subsided. I sprayed liberally with Boots heat spray and put my feet up. (With a glass of wine.)
