Has anybody had endoscopic sinus surgery? How was it, was it straightforward, what was the recovery like, any complications etc etc???

DH has been recommended to have it, but not keen! Would be grateful to hear some real experiences.

Thanks.

Oh well. I'll tell him he's the first in the world, ever, then. That should cheer him.

Ive had a sinus operation twice now.
They give you a general anesthetic and then go in and clear out the sinuses and make drainage holes bigger or straighten any kinks etc.
You wake up after the op sore but not in any pain. Your nose feels uncomfortable because they pack it full of guaze and it stretches the skin. You look as if youve been in a fight.
The next morning is the worst part because they pull out the guaze. You will be amazed how much they stuff in there. Again its not painful but a wierd sensation. The next few days your nose feels tender and bruised but not painful. That lasts about 4 days and then it felt ok. You need to make sure you dont bump it, blow your nose or sneeze for the first week.
Tell him to have the op.

Wow some replies, thank you (my first ever Mumsnet thread, was feeling like a failure!).

Brilliant to hear some positives; DH had a septoplasty a few years back and had a pretty horrible time afterwards (got very bad acute sinusitis, unhelpfully) so is wary of more surgery (he didn't enjoy having the gauze out either....).

He's been putting off this op for quite some time now. I'll pass on the good news.

Thanks again.
