Crown preperation has confused me.

Today went for my dental appointment for crown preparation.
I am very nervous, I had Ipod on loud and didn't talk to dentist at all, before or after.
It wasn't until I got home and had a look that I realised the dentist has only prepared half of the tooth and I don't understand why.
It is a molar, 2nd from the back (no wisdom teeth). The front section is still intact, the back part has the temporary surface on.
Why would this have been done? And how will this wear in the long run?

I have had a crown for about 10 years now, never had any trouble with it! Can't remember the exact procedure but remember there was a lot of prep before it was fitted. You'll be fine

No prob with the prep proceedure (apart from the terror that goes with it). I already have 3. It's just that only half the tooth has been done. I was just wondering why...

Goober, sorry you are so phobic but it seems madness that you wouldn't ask about the procedure/ dentist wouldn't tell you what he/she was going to do and that you leave in complete ignorance. I have 2 crowns but years old so can't help you with original question - sorry.

I was told on original appointment a month ago what would be done. No mention of only doing half a tooth.
When I left today was only told not to eat for 2 hours.

Goober - I have had half a tooth done, dentist did tell me the reason, but have forgotten what he said now. Seemed logical though at the time.
