are we talking during pregnancy? I was told it was the 2nd number you had to watch and they got concerned over 90

darlingbud · 20/04/2005 19:37

yes in pregnancy (not me BTW)

Sorry to butt in but what is the treatment for high BP? Apart from lifestyle changes etc. Not in pregnancy. Thanks

mummytosteven · 20/04/2005 19:43

BP tends to be lower in PG than otherwise tho, so they might look at the figures a bit differently.

there's various different types of BP medication - ranging from diuretics up to ACE inhibitors (which IIRC are also used as heart meds).

Thanks MTS

But remember as well that it is all relative. In pregnancy they will worry about high/low blood pressure only if it changes significantly from your BP at booking in.

Miaou · 20/04/2005 19:58

i'll back that up Prufrock. My bp is ridiculously low (90/50), but m/w told me that therefore they would be concerned if it rose a lot, even if it stayed within "normal" levels.

popsycal · 20/04/2005 20:00

when the bottom number is iver 90 they will monitor you. if it hits 100 and stays there cibsistantly you will prob be gven medication
excuse typing,,.,baby in arm

popsycal · 20/04/2005 20:02

so 87 is the high end of the niormsl range,,,

prufrock you are rught about booking bp - if it goes 29 higher or lower they are cincerned...but once it huts 90s, even if not 20over normal bp they will monitor
