Back from gallbladder scan....

Bucharest · 25/03/2009 17:44

And apparently am as "fit as a fish" scan-man says....no stones, no gallbladdery abnormalities at all.

So why the feck have I got all this burpy, acidy, bellyache and pain on right side?

Have to take results to my own GP now, been translating them into English all afternoon (am in Italy) and the only thing of note was on the liver scan it said "of finely non-homogeneous structure" Don't know if that is normal or not though? He said there were no problems......

I reckon it must be h.pylori.

Eastergirl- if you read this, did you ever go to the docs?

thats weird..just going to mail you!! See how things are... thought your scan was 20th april.
Well..I've been ok..never went to doc's and it's been bit better dare I say it!!
Still get niggly back ache and there is definietly a feeling of sort of blockage under right ribs. It's defo worse around period time and defo worse if i eat bread and defo worse if bit bunged up! Been taking laxitives to make sure that doesnt happen.
Am defo more burpy than normal( not really bad though..just more than I would normally be), but no acid.
Is your right side tender at all?
I still feel fine although my shoulders been bit achey and had some of my anxious symptoms come back last week when period here.
Very strange symptoms don't you think?
Are you back at work yet? Hows it going if you are? Strange after being at home I expect.
Work is my sanity now though..am much better Mummy!!

Bucharest · 26/03/2009 10:26

LOL- well, I came on this morning- almost 3 weeks late (!!!!!!!) and as am almost 44 was getting ever-so-slightly-hysterical about that as well.....
My scan was 20th April but I was so stressed and weepy I paid to have it done privately...

My symptoms have definitely been better- but that's because I've been very careful what I've eaten....the scan man said it might simply be a long-standing gastritis, (was just talking to a friend who has GERD which seems to be just that)or he said it might simply be an intolerance to certain foods that does kick the gallbladder/liver into overdrive to assimilate them.....

Anyway, I'll take the results to the GP tomorrow, insist on a h.pylori test...and I imagine she'll make me have an endoscopy now...gah!

Glad your symptoms are a bit better...I am back at work, and it's great tbh, as it takes my mind of my rumbling tumbly and paranoias!

I thought about getting tested for all sorts!!
Too bloody scared though. I'm just praying it won't get so bad that I have too go to doctors!! pathetic wimp!
Being busy defo makes me forget about it and moving around.
Yes...3 weeks late would have sent me over the edge...got a 3yr old and 2 yr old...13mths apart! I wanted 4 kids...but well...life is just getting bit easier and I am so luckt to HAVE two HEALTHY kids that I want to enjoy them not be stressed out with anymore. I'm 37 and hubby and I have decided enough is enough. I love my job...I work 10-4 so no rushing in the morning and am excited to pick them up..generally am happy fun mummy....was not good 24/7 mummy!
I wish this ache would go though because I'm obessing about what I eat and drink...which is very boring!!

Bucharest · 27/03/2009 09:57

Doc has now looked at scan and says I have to have a gastroscopy to rule out bacterial infection like h.pylori. (I thought that could be done with blood/stool tests but she says the only sure way is a gastroscopy....which obviously I feel very meh about having....) She says my liver size is a bit big, but still this side of normal....says it's probably reacting to all the stress of the constant gastritis.....

Oh dear. I don't fancy tube down throat!!
Like I said..been ok beginning off week, but yesterday and today ache back..not really bad but more noticeable. Only different thing I've done is eat some wholemeal crackers with dairylea...trying to stay of bread..but maybe alot of wheat in crackers.
Also had some crap sticks...

Also bit stressed..work hectic..hubby away at the weekend and my parents who are hard work up for weekend.

Have also been very burpy after eating..very unlike me. only time I burp is after drinking real coke!!

Did doc say what to do in meantime?

Bucharest · 27/03/2009 10:45

She just said to "listen to my system"
I told her I'd been eating more rice than pasta, as I have found pasta to lie a bit heavy on the stomach...no fried foods, lots of fruit and veg, smaller meals etc....

MUst admit, since changing diet and eating more of the things recommended on the gallbladder diet, there are now some days when I don't get any pain at all, so maybe it was/is just an infection in that area...

Wish she'd just given me a box of antibiotics to "see" without the tubey thing.....

OP posts:
eastergirl · 27/03/2009 10:52

Yes...thats kind of what I've been doing. Eating little and often...not too fatty...not too heavy.
So glad I wasn't going mad...re; odd symptoms!
Have good weekend...hopefully pain/ache free!!

Bucharest · 27/03/2009 10:56

You too! x

Bucharest has your GP not suggested that tou try taking Omeprazole? This will cut down on the amount of acid your stomach is producing and should cut out the heartburn totally. I have a gall bladder full of stones and used to suffer dreadfully with heartburn but now I take 20mg of Omeprazole per day I have no problems whatsoever.
I am surprised if you've been to the doctor's with gastritis that they haven't prescribed Omeprazole (or another PPI).

Peppermint capsules are good for trapped wind and bloating too and you can buy them over the counter.

On and I'd say to anyone - never ever underestimate just how painful wind trapped in the gut and abdomen can be. It is common for wind to become trapped under the ribs and this can take time to resolve and many people think they have all sorts of awful things wrong with them. It's not uncommon for people to take themselves off to A&E fearing a heart attack when it is trapped wind. It can be so bloody painful.

Bucharest · 27/03/2009 11:15

Hi Gunnerbean- yes I had 2 weeks of a PPI in February, 1 wk at 20mg and 1 wk at 10 mg...At the same time, I started thinking gallbladders (after reading stuff on here) and changed my eating habits and as I said, it is easing off, the pains are definitely not as frequent or as owwwww.

I'm just taking over-counter antacids now...

Are you going to have surgery on your gallbladder? I remember years ago (was still at home) making my Mum call the emergency doc as I was convinced I was having a heart attack- that was trapped wind, but I thought I was dying- I just couldn't breathe....

I've been so stressed and weepy about all this- I'm a foodie and have just never had anything stomach-y before.....

Hi Bucharest. Yes, I should have it out really but it's played me up for so many years now that I;ve got used to it and the GP has left it up to me to make the decision about whether I want it out or whether I am willing to just go on managing the attacks of pain as I have been up til now.

I know I should have it out but I keep chickening out. The problem is there can be weeks or months between attacks during which time I feel completely normal but when I have an attack I just want it out!! By the time the pain has subsided and I feel back to normal I push it tot he back of my mind again - until the next attack.

What worries me most is that one day a stone wil get lodged in my bile duct and then I'll be an emergency case. I know my gall bladder is a ticking time bomb so I should have it out really but sometimes the thought of contracting some hideous hospital infection like CDiff or MRSA while in hospital having it out worries me more!

eastergirl · 30/03/2009 10:50

Hi Bucharest,

How you doing today?
I have been bloated, anxious and had this stupid ache nearly all weekend!!!!
Was stress cos hubby away on golf jolly...parents up and was trying to be perfect daughter with perfect kids!! I'm sure it affects it all.
Been very burpy...even after a gulp of water.
How much was your private scan? Did you have to be referred?

eastergirl · 01/04/2009 11:52

Bucharest...how you feeling?

Bucharest · 02/04/2009 09:17

Only just seen this!
I'm Ok. Bit grumpy and depressed about just feeling so meh all the time.....
My private scan was 100 euro (am in Italy)
Was speaking to neighbour (about why I have to have endoscopy for h. pylori when everything I've read says they can look at your poo!) and she (who has had it) says to go to private lab for blood/stool tests and then if it is h.pylori they like to do an endoscopy to make sure the infection hasn't caused an ulcer.
Just fed up really. (and obviously every so often finger hits the google button and I ge weepy and silly)

How are you now? Have you been to the docs yet? I looked on the h.pylori foundation website and tbh, my symptoms tick all the boxes, including the weepiness.....

eastergirl · 02/04/2009 10:03

Hi again,

Glad your back...been stressing about it too!!
I stupidly googled again and freaked myself out!!
I have been so burpy it's unbelieveable...even after a sip of water. Been going to bed with hot water bottle as the spot under the ribs is going out the back and it's driving me mad.
Still feel fine..if you know what I mean. I read the hpylori thing too....about 20 times. I'm not really weepy..just anxious. But I do get hungry again after I've eaten my main meal..I do get very burpy..bit both ends(TMI)and look 5 mths pregnant after eating a meal.
Do you get back ache as well?
Are you aound to CAT?

Bucharest · 25/04/2009 13:09

Bumping thread back up as finally....drum roll....(and well, duh....) have blood test result of h.pylori......positive!!!!!!!!

Am so relieved.....and cross with doctor for giving me the willies over gallstones (and worse tbh) and making me do all these horrible things....(it's only been since January that I've been suggesting to her that it might be that and she kept saying it wasn't...erm, diagnosis by just looking at me seemingly.....)

Don't know if you're around Eastergirl- how are you getting on? Any results for you yet?

OP posts:
eastergirl · 05/05/2009 15:09

Hi Burcharest,

Well that solved your mystery!!
Sorry been on holiday...funny...no symptoms at all until last day or so...seems stress related. Back at work now and it's back again...due on though and it seems worse then anyway. Am totally ignoring it unless it gets bad again and then I will face my fears and go to the doctors!!
Have you been treated? Do you feel better?

Bucharest · 06/05/2009 09:49

Eastergirl- hi- I kept putting your name into searches to try and find you- hope your holiday was relaxing....
I'm on last day of the antibs (I did have to stop for half a day as had vommy migraine and didn't want to risk upchucking the pills, so waited till that had passed...) Symptoms had all but cleared anyway- have had a bit of a heavy tummy feeling (apparently quite common with one of the antibs) but nothing drastic...

Yours does sound like stress. I work 2 days a week in a school and my symptoms were always worse just before those days. Mad isn't it what our psyche can do to our bodies...

Anyway- hope you're feeling OK. x

Hi again,

Yes lovely relaxing holiday!

Really annoyed to have same annoying pain/ache on my return. obviously is connected somewhere with stress..like anything I supose.

Glad your starting to feel bit better. Here's a funny question. Did you have a sore tongue or swallon glands at all??
