about 2 hours ago, but tis still bad. The Losec is prescription and I usually have to take it in 7-10 day blocks. I have some Milk of magnesia, would it be ok to try some of that, as it is so sore, also have Rennies, maybe they would help

i do sympathise, I suffer from the same a lot of the time. usually find eating something small eg a biscuit helps temporarily; sometimes fizzy mineral water helps as you can then burp! otherwise lying down in a warm bath. i do take rennies etc on top of ranitidine but don't know what losec is and if it's compatible sorry

TimeForMe · 25/03/2009 17:16

no advice re the Losec but I do remember your post in which you had a suspected heart attack. You will keep an eye on it won't you? I hope you feel better soon x

Sorry, my auntie rang so I've been chatting to her.

Losec is another name for Omeprazole. I find it does help, but only if I take it every day for at least a week.

Timeforme - it wasn't a heart attack, thankfully (dh came on and posted that Iwas being kept in and was ok) but it was a residual infection from a previous chest infection. Thanks though for being concerned

Riven - have you ever taken both together though?

My DP has a Losec every day which mainly keeps heartburn under control. If it does get bad though he takes settlers as well - hasn't done him any harm.

noddy - I think it is the painkillers , I've had to increase them to maximum dose every day for about 2/3 weeks now.
I feel awful, both physically and metally, I'll get by though

Hi

Sorry for hijack, but just wondered, those of you who suffer with reflux/hearburn, what sort of symptoms do you get?

I don't have it all the time - it comes and goes - but makes my life quite miserable when I do get an attack. I get quite bad chest pains (but have been told it's not my heart, am quite young) and it when very bad I can feel it in my back too. Is it just me, or do others get this too?

candyfluff · 25/03/2009 22:13

Hi. My heartburn is like a feeling that I'm going to burp, only it doesn't come out and instead leaves a horrible burning feeling in my throat and my (forget the name) tube that goes down to my tummy. Sometimes I get a bad pain in teh ribs as well

Saltire- I remember your thread as well....
Have you had your gallbladder checked? I've just had mine scanned as I had similar burpy symptoms and pain in rib area (and 3 mths of ranitidine, followed by pariet (which is also omeprazole)It's not my gallbladder so I'm back to the drawing board, but g/b seems to have very similar indigestiony symptoms from what I've read on here.

brettgirl2 · 26/03/2009 12:36

What dose of Omeprazole are you on?

If it isn't working I would suggest going back to the doctors and discuss upping it. I was told by a consultant that some people take up to 160mg per day.

If you are only taking 20mg then that wouldn't work for me to be honest (I have to take 40mg for it to work)

Kayteee · 26/03/2009 16:19

Feelingscared, it could be gallstones. I have them and the pain you describe is similar. Infact the pain goes over your right shoulder if it's gallstones. You can get blood tests and scan done if you are worried. hth
