Do I need to see a GP?

I had a smear 3 weeks ago.

Since then I have had spotting (usually very light) every two or three days.

I had my child a year ago, have been heavily breastfeeding since then and not had a period since, excepting a bit of light bleeding a few months back. I have cut down a bit lately though.

Could this be breakthrough bleeding from hormones,do I need to see GP or just await smear results in 3 weeks or so?

I get a bit of low backache with these spotting incidents, much like period pains.

Could you be getting your periods back? I didn't get mine until 9mths after DS1. By a year, even if your LO is still feeding frequently, the fact that s/he is now taking solids might mean that she is taking less than you think and you are gradually producing less milk and therefore more likely to start menstruating again.

You could always ring your surgery if you are concerned though - 3 wks of spotting sounds like a long time, and if you can pin point its starting after your smear, then perhaps you could call them for advice, even just to set your mind at rest.

Yes I think its worth calling the surgery and asking to talk to nurse or gp - they usually call you back between certain hours. Then they can decide if you need to go in - its a hassle with a baby after all.

Good luck
