Migraine question

DD (18) had a tough day at work yesterday and complained of feeling 'knackered' in the car on the way home. She also mentioned a headache, the kind that makes your eyes ache. She seemed fine last night, ate ok but did fall asleep early. She woke at 3am and was sick she then got an absolute banging headache. She hasn't been sick since and has had no diarrhoea. She still has the headache though but it only hurts when she moves or if she tries to stand up. Paracetamol hasn't helped and she can't take Ibuprofen. She's also got a heavy period.

Does this sound like a migraine to you? She does suffer from them from time to time but tehy don't usually make her vomit.

yes it does
is she drinking enough? especially if she's got her period too?

vomiting is a common symptom with migraine, but if she hasn't had it before it might be something else.
Is her headache one-sided? Does she say it is like previous migraines she has had?
The pain on movement, especially standing up is quite common with migraine as well (change in blood pressure as you stand/sit)

She should probably see a GP to get some prescription meds for migraine if she can't take Ibuprofen and paracetamol isn't touching it. If she isn't sick again it probably is a migraine, nothing else.

Yes, it does sound like a migraine. I get them only when there are big hormonal changes for me (by big I mean impending miscarriage or stopping breastfeeding), and understand that many women get them with the hormonal changes that come along with their period.

Having said that, there is also a 24 hour, (with middle-of-the-night-vomiting) sickness bug doing the rounds at the moment.

Thanks for the replies.

She has done this once before (at about this time last year actually) but we put it down to the fact she had a undiagnosed chest infection and had been at a football match with her dad after work, then tried to drive home (her dad says he knew she was bad when she pulled over and asked him to drive as she loves driving and he hates it). She used to be sick with her asthma as a little one so we just assumed it was the infection that made her vomit.

No Compo, she probably isn't taking in enough fliud as she's an etemophobe but I am reminding her to drink.
