im 4 weeks pst op for a posterior repair and may need the anterior repair in the future.

i havent had to do this and would be scred witless of how to do it

Jacksmama · 23/03/2009 17:04

Bumping for you...

I have had a posterior repair (6 weeks ago), and had no trouble after it, BUT, after I had DS, I was unable to "feel" my bladder for several days, and had overflow incontinence and some retention. It sorted itself out fairly quickly - within a week, I think?

Hopefully someone will be along who knows more. Good luck!

kentmumtj · 23/03/2009 17:10

im fed up with feeling so sore and uncomfortable though

im interested fees in hearing about your op especially since i may need the front wall done at a later stage.
Am not wondering why they didnt do them both at the same time

Jacksmama · 23/03/2009 23:41

Kentmum, did you ask why they didn't? Seems daft to me, too.

kentmumtj · 24/03/2009 09:23

i did ask and what they told me was they would do the rectocele then give me physio for the front wall before operating on it
does seem daft to me especially with the amount of time im having to take off work and the soreness involved

Thanks everyone Jacksmama thats encouraging that you felt better after a week its only been five days since i had the op and was told today by nurse only have to cathetise once in morn and night. Finding it very stressful though, i can't understand why they didn't do your anterior at the same time Kentmumtj. I was only supposed to have a posterior repair and rebuild of the perineum (TMI?) but my surgeon said she could see a bulge and did the anterior at the same time. I think the worst bit was the pack that they insert overnight i was in agony the pressure on my pelvis (and particular my bottom) felt like a baby head crowning after a lot of morphine and begging they finally gave me an injection to knock me out and three hours later they removed it but that was definately the worst part. If i had to offer any advice I would say take lots of arnica and drink water with rescue remedy in it and take laxatives until you feel normal again at least thats my plan. Please feel free to ask any questions I hope you to feel better soon.

Hi fees, hope you feel better soon - don't worry about TMI!!! Come visit us here, there's tons of TMI , as well as support! It's long thread, so you might want to read up from the bottom, but lots of us have had ops lately so we all know how you feel. I didn't have as much trouble with the packing but it really was uncomfortable. Actually, judging by everyone else's recoveries from their ops, I'm starting to feel fairly lucky .

kentmumtj · 25/03/2009 08:30

hi guys i hear you both talk about having packing in i didnt at all how strange as i have read most people do.

kentmumtj · 25/03/2009 08:31

oh and i never took laxatives just eating lots of fruit, veg and fibre and allow it to happen naturally oh and drank lots of water

fees · 25/03/2009 15:12

Hi there you were so lucky not to have pack I keep having flashbacks!!! I tried the fruit veg prune juice and even many laxatives later but it was still 4 days before I even felt the urge and even then nothing to get excited about just a few marbles (sorry)I think it was stress from the trauma of the pack... wish i had a lap top sitting down is soooooooooo uncomfortable and the bladder nurse keeps telling me to lie down for 2 hours each day but thats not easy with four children thank goodness husband was made reduntant very useful having him around never thought it would be so convienent hopefully he will find a job just as i am back on my feet!

handy hes around i too have 4 kids but they have all been very good.
I discovered this week that i still have a bad infection this is the reason i have not been healing and am still unable to sit or drive.

I have been told to go back next week and hopefully this course of anti will get me up and running again

fees · 27/03/2009 14:45

Kentmumtj sorry to hear you are suffering hopefully the anti biotics will work I can't stress enough about arnica and rescue remedy I feel so much better today and don't think I will need to cathertise anymore just waiting for nurse to confirm. Worringly though I did take a peek and I am a bit concerned that I can see a lot of stiches and wondered if this was normal Shouldn't that all be tucked away somewhere?

kentmumtj · 29/03/2009 20:00

yes the antibiotics are working and im feeling better with each passing day looks like ive had this infection for weeks and the 1st lot of antibiotics didnt do anything.

Im amazed you can atually see anything down there I have tried looking down there many times and well to be honest its been so swollen that ....here goes TMI time but i couldnt part the area to see anything as i was toooo sore. To be touched down there was so painful but now im thinking it must have been the infection and swelling.

Will be having a look tonight after my shower and i will let you know what it looks like. You say that is hould be tucked away???? what are you reffering to the stitches or something else.
I had stitches both internally and externally.

fees · 02/04/2009 22:05

Sorry been a bit poorly bit depressed that this op has not been too successful feel dragging and feel very aware down there like something resting on pad even though it isnt, i think i am referring to stitches when isay i can see something but is does look very lumpy might just be scar tissue. I feel damaged andcan't ever imagine having sex again ................its only been a couple of weeks suppose i should just give it time.

Hope you are feeling better.

Sorry dont want to sound so miserable or bring anyone down .

I had anterior and posterior repair done 3 weeks today. I left hospital with a catheter for a week. That was removed and an infection found. I also had urine retention so have to self catheterise am and pm. I also had to inject myself for 5 days with something to thin the blood. That was horrific. My stitches are still there. My vagina feels all lumpy and I had another infection last week. I only finished the tablets on sun and have now got another infection which includes diarreah and feeling quite unwell. I am going to docs today. This op was worse than my hysterectomy and I have not had one day when I have felt well in 3 weeks. Maybe it's just me being unlucky. I can't ever imagine going back to work again. As I work with disabled children and there is a lot of straining involved. I hope most of you don't feel this way.

MissingMySleep · 29/03/2011 15:15

oh you poor thing. How did you get on at the docs? That doesnt sound right, other people have had the repair and felt ok by wk 3 I hear. I am still in week 1 so it hurts lots but I am hopeful.
