Tampon in overnight?

Is it safe to leave a tampon in overnight? I'm thinking of getting a mooncup before anyone asks, and I think you can leave that in overnight can't you?

I always left tampons in overnight. Just made sure that I put it in last thing before bed and took out first thing in morning. I think it says on the box no more than 8 hours, so that was usually ok for me.

But all this talk of mooncups has made me want to try....after I'm done being preggo.

ForeverOptimistic · 19/03/2009 14:58

I always leave them in overnight.

I am curious about mooncups. Too nervous to order one this month tho!!

I leave them in overnight too.

Strawbezza · 19/03/2009 15:06

Never realised anyone didn't leave them in overnight? Really wouldn't fancy going to bed wearing big pants and a thick sanitary towel.

Read the instruction leaflet with the tampons.

MargaretMountford · 19/03/2009 15:07

yes, I do

WowOoo · 19/03/2009 15:10

Yes, but only on the heaviest first 2 days.
Have big period pants too. Eurgh.

TrillianAstra · 19/03/2009 15:13

Just to clarify I don't set an alarm for 8 hours either: if I can sleep in then that's great!

thumbwitch · 19/03/2009 15:14

never caused me a problem, I've always done it.

WowOoo · 19/03/2009 15:34

My mother really did brainwash me.

sarah76 · 19/03/2009 16:37

Only problem is, if it's a lighter flow day, and you're horizontal, sometimes you get up and the tampon is still really dry and a bugger to remove. . .

WowOoo · 19/03/2009 16:44

Ouch!

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/03/2009 17:23

when i did have periods i always left them in over night

and then removed in am though

if bleed was light, then tampax not moist and a bit dry to pull out

sometimes i did go to bed not wearing one or a towel and bed was clean

sarah76 · 19/03/2009 17:26

Is there a word for sleeping without sanitary protection during your period? Like going without knickers is 'going commando'?

saintmaybe · 19/03/2009 17:50

Noooo, I wouldn't wear one overnight, or if I wasn't well or once I wasn't bleeding much. Not at all goodfor you, imo. Get a mooncup!

saramoon · 19/03/2009 20:38

I always put a tampax in overnight for the first 3 nights at least - if I didn't, then I would 'leak' everywhere! Sometimes I wake up about 2 in the morning and have to go and change it. As soon as my flow is lighter, I am not keen on using them at all.

ivedoneitnow · 20/03/2009 20:19

A mooncup is a must... no risk of toxic shock syndrome like tampons have and are environmentally friendly. A mooncup has changed the way I feel about my periods. Before I got a mooncup, I used to use tampons but always leaked, despite using the super dooper ones. Now when I am on my period, there is no leakage, and no risk. and I often forget Im on my period. My mooncup has been a godsend for my first period after giving birth 5 months ago... Would have been unmanageable for a tampon!!

MmeLindt · 20/03/2009 20:22

The best way to avoid the ouch factor of a light flow with tampons is to switch to a mooncup. Much much better.

I used to get quesy and lightheaded when using tampons.

sarah76 · 20/03/2009 23:53

Weirdly enough, I got an email from a friend a few days ago, saying 'you're a worldly woman, have you tried these Mooncup things? what are they like?' and I couldn't answer!

How did I miss Mooncups? 16 years ago I was the only teenager I knew of who ever tried a diaphragm, so definitely not shy about sticking bits of rubber up there! Definitely going to give Mooncup a go after pregnancy.

tigerdriver · 20/03/2009 23:57

TMI coming up, but does anyone know if mooncups work if you have a heavy flow. I left a heavy duty tampon in last night (for about 6 hours) and had to change the bedding this morning (yuk, yuk, sorry). I either get niagra falls or a dry stream for days.
