Fractured front teeth: Anyone else got them?

Been to the dentist today. DS2, age 21 months has fracture lines in both two front teeth at the top, as a result of falling on them. She said it was OK, they would last until the new ones come through, just try to prevent him from smacking them on the floor/bath again (two incidents I can vividly recall).
I can't even see the white marks which indicate a fracture.
Feeling guilty anyhow. Has anyone else experienced this and was it OK?

DD has had one for some time, at least 2 years. The tooth is dead, and has turned slighly darker than the others. It hasn't caused any probs tho, she is now 4.

My dd fell over at playground and smacked her mouth on the hard floor resulting in a damaged front tooth. The tooth concerned turned a dingy colour. The dentist said it would probably fall out sooner rather than later. She did this when she was 3 and the tooth only fell out a few weeks ago and she is 6.5 and months after the other front tooth fell out despite what the dentist said!

ds1 broke his front tooth completely in half when he hit his face on the bottom of a swimming pool 18 months ago.

The sad thing for him is that he is 11 and it's his adult tooth that's broken. He has a temporary cap on it for now until after he's finished with orthodontics (if he needs them) and when he's 16 can have a proper cap on it.

Your ds should be ok if it's his baby ones and it shouldn't affect his adult teeth.

Thank you for the reassurances. So long as he keeps his teeth until the next ones come through! Now I've got to try to stop him running everywhere, as when he falls in this house it's a nightmare as everywhere is a tiled, stone floor.

I knocked off half my front tooth when I was 11 (car accident). I had a temporary cap for a week (and I still remember how horrible it was, bright white and lumpy) before I got a permanent one. I hope they make better ones now.

That lasted until I knocked it out on the bottom of a pool at 14, but apparently the dentist had made a terrible job of it. New dentist fitted one which lasted until I was 30 (knocked that one out on a wine glass, a week before I got married.)

So try not to worry. My Mum was so upset about the tooth, she didn't notice that I'd carved up my forehead. The tooth has never really caused me any bother. Still got a lumpy forehead though!

ds1 had a cap fitted when we got back from holiday, tbh it was rubbish as it looked too square and it fell off the next day. I only took him back to get it re-done a few weeks ago as he kept feeling a bit self-concious as everyone was asking what he'd done. Much better job this time around and looks pretty natural too.

At least he can boast about "war wounds" and impress the girls!

DS, now 22 months completely knocked out one of his front teeth last year (fell over in the middle of a big department store, blood everywhere,not a pretty sight, lots of guilt!). At the moment he looks kind of cute - people say it gives him character. And he's not actually bothered by it in the least. But I'm a little worried that by the time he's 3 or 4 he might be self-conscious about it. We're waiting for an appointment with the dental hospital to see if they can do anything.

As for how to stop them running everywhere - have you tried tying them down to the sofa? Just kidding - not sure you can stop them. Just have to hope they grow out of the falling over bit!

My DS knocked out a front tooth at age 3 (well almost knocked out - it was too far gone to save so removed under GA in hospital). The gap got gradually smaller & when 2nd teeth started to come through they were crowded, but we knew from age 3 that he would have to have braces when older (who doesn't these days we thought?).

However, this year (age 9) he broke BOTH front permanent teeth, and has 2 temporary fillings on them. One has already had to be replaced- very accident prone boy! He will get them permanently capped when he is older and after all orthodontic work finished. It is only lately that he has been aware that his teeth are all wonky - he is awaiting his orthodontist appt (on waiting list) with a mixture of apprehension and joy. However, the dentists have always seen worse, and he WILL end up with a nice smile!
