After exhausting nearly every available contraceptive option I am now looking at having a mirena fitted.

My question is how long have people generally bled for after having it fitted.

TIA

I am passed the menopause and just had the mirena coil fitted to stop problems of womb lining increasing. I must say it was so simple and quick, it wasnt painful not even uncomfortable.Had local injection which also didnt hurt.!
Worsed thing was when I walked into the hospital room to find a very dishy looking Australian doctor to do the deed!!!!!!!!!!!

Had Mirena coil fitted 2 nd Feb 2015, I am 50, had it fitted as I'm on the menopause and after trying various combinations of HRT to no avail, my GP suggested the coil and a HRT patch, not painful being fitted, just like a smear, few cramps after for a couple of days, then on the Thursday started bleeding, terrible period pains, cramps and headaches, still bleeding now although it is a lot lighter, been back to GP, checked it all out, everything looking fine, just give it time she said can take up to 6 months to settle, never had heavy or painful periods before, just irregular and lots of PMT symptoms, that's why I have had it fitted, well at the moment I don't know whether I'm on a period or not, fingers crossed I'm going to give it 6 months, don't know if I'll still be married then though, we will see.
