my face has swollen up and feels hot and heavy do you think it needs to be drained?

My DH had an abscess a few weeks ago. It was sheer agony for him and his face was quite swollen. He had to go and get it lanced in the end. I would definitely suggest you get and see someone urgently because if it is an abscess it could burst and cause further problems, such as blood poisoning.

O gawd yes - my preference would be antibiotics asap and then possibly a root canal filling, others would advise whipping the offending tooth out!

Get thee to a dentist, DO NOT let it fester

southeastastra · 14/03/2009 15:30

yes you probably need some anti-biotics too, rinsing with hot water helps also ibuprofen with codeine. poor you.

have you tried to take the tablets again yet?

i had a metallic taste with my abscess and the ab's did take a couple of days to kick in.

painkillers do help also hot water rinses.

candyfluff · 14/03/2009 16:18

yes have taken two so far so good
what painkillers do you think best paracetamol or ibuprofen?
hot?salt water rinse you mean?

I found aspirin better than paracetamol or ibuprofen, for some reason. Also salt water mouth washes.

Lots of sympathy to you - abscesses are AGONY

southeastastra · 14/03/2009 16:43

yes salty water is ok.

i remember taking nurofen with codeine and paracetamol alternatley as it was such agony.

candyfluff · 18/03/2009 14:33

just wondering if anyone who has had an abscess got weird aching eye on the side of the effected tooth ?
