My hubby thought these might help me.

I have used weight loss/stop binge-eating ones and they did help. And I am naturally very cynical and don't 'go under' as such when hypnotised.

Nabster · 15/03/2009 13:01

Do you have any idea where I can buy some from please?

OP posts:
Malkuth · 15/03/2009 13:11

I got mine from a cognitive hypnotherapist I saw about weight loss/loss of control over life/living with someone with severe depression etc. Poor woman may have bitten off more than she could chew with me!

Probably depends what you need it for as to where to get something. Don't really want to put her link on here as it sort of identifies me but you can email me if you want. Just off to create a mumsnet email address. Back in a mo.

Nabster · 15/03/2009 13:18

Thank you.

Right, email me at [email protected] if you want and I can send you a link. Even if she can't help she may know of someone in your area. HTH.

Nabster · 15/03/2009 13:21

Have emailed.

Thank you.

Have emailed you back. May have sent it multiple times as kept having a verification code thing that didn't work!

DH has downloaded me a cd he says I have to listen too every night before bed. No idea what is on it.

OP posts:
Malkuth · 16/03/2009 15:17

Hope it helps. I think partly the relaxing and having to do nothing else for half an hour or so is beneficial.

Have to admit the first couple of times I listened to mine I kept remembering the Friends episode where Chandler listened to a quitting smoking for women cd. Would almost get hypnotised and then get the giggles!

Nabster · 16/03/2009 16:32

Very strange experience. Could have got up at any time so it wans't like being asleep. can't remember much of what was said. DH said I am not meant too as it all goes into my self conscious but then how does it help me???

OP posts:
Malkuth · 18/03/2009 18:01

Sorry not to have replied sooner. I think the idea is that it goes into your sub-conscious and is absorbed into your everyday thinking without you ever being that aware. I found that my behaviour changed without me even making an effort. Your subconscious is where a lot of your gut or instinctive reactions come from so I guess it is about changing patterns that are so deepset you don't realise they exist. Or something!

Nabster · 18/03/2009 18:48

How long does it take to really start making an obvious difference?

OP posts:
Malkuth · 19/03/2009 08:04

It took a couple of listens to notice a bit of a change. I then got all rebellious (god knows why, think it's a normal self-sabotage thing with me) and started not listening enough but whenever I listen for a good week then I really notice a change. I am about to start using the cds properly again so if you see me on here of an evening tell me to go listen to them!

A friend who used the stop smoking ones used them every night for a month and now hasn't smoked for 3 years so I reckon that is probably a good indicator. And she was a die-hard smoker!

Nabster · 19/03/2009 12:28

I was too tired to stay up to listen to it last night but will again tonight.

DH is going to get me some others too.

OP posts:
Malkuth · 19/03/2009 20:07

If you are too tired to stay up you can just stick it on anyway cos you are meant to absorb the info in your sleep apparently. I often nod off during mine

Nabster · 19/03/2009 20:10

I want to go to bed right now but I think DH is getting a little bit fed up that our evenings together are getting shorter. I am just so tired............

You can buy some - I saw a Paul Mckenna book and cd recently - in Waterstones or other high street bookshops. Never used them but am interested to know what others think

paranoidmother · 19/03/2009 21:13

I tried the Paul McKenna weight loss book and CD. It was a lovely book and not patronising and the ideas were good but the CD always sent me to sleep half way through.

Worth a try and you should be able to borrow it from your local library and other books/cd's to if you want to try before you buy.

Nontoxic · 19/03/2009 21:33

I have loads of these www.innertalk.com, www.virtuallyperfect.org, www.justbewell.com.
I think they do help, but like you I don't like to losextime listening to them in the day.
But as someone else said, it's fine to use them while you go off to sleep (in fact, I get a better night's sleep when I do), it's just that I find the earphones very uncomfortable.
I think I've now talked myself into using them regularly.

Nabster · 20/03/2009 08:08

I am going to look for a new portable CD player today as I am using Dh's which is 20 years old and not great.

Thank you for all the help.
