Hormone Blood Test - Can someone explain what this is?

I have only had one period this year and my periods are usually quite regular. I am NOT pregnant so the doctor took some bloods this morning to check my hormone levels.

What exactly are they looking at? Should I be concerned?

Hi Elaineee,

From the details you gave it is likely they will be testing the levels of various hormones.

Likely to be LH, FSH and progesterone, the levels of which at various times in your cycle are related to you ovulating and then later having a period.

Not having periods may suggest you are not ovulating and one possible cause could be polycystic ovary syndrome. This would be concerning for you if you were trying to conceive as it could make it harder but is not concerning in respect of your overall health otherwise.

Wait and see what the tests show - I hope it goes well.

I had a scan two weeks ago to rule anything such as POS out and my scan results were normal. Like you say, I'll just have to wait.
