am on day 3 with tonsilitus, I didnt go to the doctors as soon as I sould have as it was dds birthday, I have been taking antibiotics since yesterday but I am so ill, I cant get my teperature doen, I have been taking co codemol and while they are not bringing my temp down they are helping a little with the pain. anyway I need to take ibuprofen as well as I have taken too many co codemol already, thing is if I take iburofen when I haventeaten they make me sick, I cant even swallow my oen saliva at the moment so I cant possibl;e eat something.
My dh had to take the day off work yesterday to look after dd's as I was so ill, and now he is going to be in trouble at work as they were really arsey with him about it.
My mum has offered to take them today and I know I need to rest but I will be so lonely without them all day.

also is tonsilitus supposed to make you this ill, I didnt actually see a doctor, just described my symptons over the phone. Am starting to worry now as my tonsils look like they have gone mouldy and I am in agiony swalowing a sip[ of water and having to spit my own saliva out as it is too painful to swallow.

Get an appointment asap. You may have abscesses too. That's what i had quite often and needed more than the usual amoxycillian.

Had this every couple of months till i had my tonsils out when i was 19. Sympathies

thesockmonsterofdoom · 12/03/2009 07:27

[asd] that sounds awful, you just cant get to see a doctor at my surgery they do nearly everything over the phone, I will try when they open though.

Oh Socky
if you can't awallow saliva that's classed as urgent I think
Someone ought to see you or help you

JaneSeymour · 12/03/2009 07:35

Have you got any childrens nurofen, tastes voile but easier than a tablet I think for your tummy

JaneSeymour · 12/03/2009 07:36

Or even calpol, not sure if cocod. has paracet in it already

thesockmonsterofdoom · 12/03/2009 07:45

I decided to risk some ibuprofen, it cant make me feel any worse. I can swallow a sip of water or a tablet but it makes me scream, it is something to do with the consistency of saliva, which I have never noticed before.
my throat is killing, but also my neck outside hurts and feels really swollen, and m my ears are sore.
as well as fever aches in my liombs.
I suppose I should give it another day to see if the penacillin kicks in.
I am a bit worried that I may dehydrate, I worked out I drank opne small glass of water and half a cup of tea yesterday.

Hi there, I'm a veteran of many a tonsilitis attack, and I really think you need to see a doc. I think you need some antibiotics, esp as you say you have a coating on your tonsils. If you can manage it at all, can you gargle with soluble aspirin or tcp? You have my sympathies, I had to have mine out eventually at the age of 21, and I was like you for three weeks afterwards, had to carry a spit bowl around with me. Take care.

HeadFairy · 12/03/2009 07:52

OH, sorry, I've just noticed you 've got some penicillin. keep taking them... Another thing that helps, it's painful but it does work, try drinking hot drinks. The hotter the better. The raised temp of the drink can kill any bacteria that are lurking locally.

I'd also think about getting a new doc, with those symptoms they shouldn't be giving diagnosis over the phone, they should be coming out for a home visit.

thesockmonsterofdoom · 12/03/2009 07:55

my mum just phoned and is coming round to take dd's. I have got some penacillin, took a full days worth esterday so hoping it will start to do womething soon.

poor you, i had this last week, took 4 days for the ab's to knock in. temperature was horrible . chloraseptic throat sray is quite good for short term relief.

JaneSeymour · 12/03/2009 09:20

My mother swears by honey, just a teaspoon of it, v good antiseptic properties apparently but I find it too sweet.
I dissolve it in hot water with lemon juice...not sure if it helps but worth a shot.

thanks everyone, feeling a bit better now so going to try and go back to sleep. house is creepy with no children in it. ibuprofen must have kicked in as I can swallow now, going to try and drink as much as I can before it wears off again.

How you feeling today? Are the antib's starting to work? Hope you managed to get a decent night's sleep, I find that's better than any amount of drugs!
