You should immediately stop taking the pill if your whole body starts itching, why?

Im not worrying, just going to stop taking it. Still going to get a blood test as i have been concerned i am anaemic anyhow. Even if its nothing it just proves to me i hate taking anything as you never know.

The combined pill is not given to women with a history of Obstetric Cholestasis because in some women oestrogen can cause the liver to stop producing bile salts, which leads to increased bile acids in the bloodstream. These can cause itching (usually starts/is worse on extremities), yellowness, dark urine and pale stools.
Short term there is no real danger to a person with cholestasis - the whole treatment of women with OC is concerned with the possible dangers to the baby as it usually goes away once you have given birth. So if it is this, act, but don't worry.
The blood tests they should do to rule this out are LFT's and Bile Acids (which have to go to Birminham and will take 1-2 weeks to get results back) If it is cholestasis, Piriton will not help. There are no allergens in your body to be counteracted by the anti-histamine (although the sedative affect of Piriton might help you to sleep despite the itching). Try keeping very cool as this helps constrict the flow of the bile acid laden bloodto your skin.
