Emergency bleeding question if anyone's around - sorry for TMI

I'll try to be brief. I've always had irregular and long but never heavy periods. I'd never used more than a normal tampon and usually only minis.

I had a coil fitted in September after 2nd baby. After 1st I had one too, with no problems. Both non-hormonal.

Since this one, I've been bleeding on and off and my periods have been heavier. I seem to have one day where its really heavy and I bleed through a super tampax and a towel in an hour. Its been like that today all day and I've been feeling kind of dizzy and faint. I just went to the toilet and the bleeding is really heavy, its almost like its running out of me like a cut and quite a few clots came out. One I saw was about the size of a 20p. I can feel now I'm still bleeding and I feel cold and shivery.

Should I be worried? I am pretty sure the coil has to come out but do I need to worry tonight? I feel quite scared.

You need to call NHS direct with this rather then be on here. A number of things could have happened, please give them a call.

strawberrycornetto · 05/03/2009 22:31

Ok, thanks. Wasn't sure if I was being overly dramatic.

No, give them a call. It may be period related and it may not. Don't take any risks.

Sorry, didn't mean to disappear. I rang NHS direct and the nurse called me back and was lovely. She said to go to the doctor tomorrow and out of hours if it gets worse but that it sounds like the coil. I do know for sure I'm not pregnant as no possible opportunity and I recently had a clear smear test so I'm sure its fine but I think I will get it taken out.

I didn't mean to be dramatic and worry people, sorry .
