Womb Infecion - anyone have any experience or advice?

Gave birth to DS 2 10 days ago and on Mon woke up with appalling period pains and a temp of 40.

Doctor diagnosed a womb infection and prescribed antibitoics and advised me to keep temp down with 2 hourly paracetmol and ibuprofen.

I have been doing that and whilst I am taking the tablets during the day the temp stays down and I don't feel so bad (although have a nagging headache that just won't go)but at night when I am not taking tablets all the time my temp shoots right back up and was over 39 during night and this mornign and gives me the shakes and I can't get warm.

I've had 2 days worth of antibiotics and I would have thought they might have started to work at least to the the extent that the temperature is being reduced but clearly not.

Does anyone have any experience of this - am I just being a bit unrealistic. Had been looking forward to nice week with DH and baby before he has to go back to work and feeling abit sorry for both of us.

Doesn't help that I did some research on internet and found out about puerperal fever which seems to be consequence if this kind of thing is not treated properly and have scared living daylights out of myself. I think some maybe a case of a little info being a bad thing!

Hiya. I also had very bad pains day 9 post delivery, it went on for about a week, was awful, couldn't even move.
I was given ab's for infection in womb, seperate lot for infection in bladder, anti inflammitries (sp?) and strong pain killers. I didn't have a temperature though. If you are concerned, ring the labour ward, they are still responsible for you.
Did you have an epidural?

meggiesmummie · 04/03/2009 08:45

No didn't have an epidural and don't really know what caused it - Doctor just says its bad luck! Thinking of calling them this morning if nothing else just to put my mind at rest.

I'd call gp and say your temp isn't coming down. You might need different ABs.

I had it after a c-section. What ABs are you on? Mine didn't clear up until I had metronidazole after two courses of something weaker.

Congratulations! BTW

Only asked about the epidural because of the headaches. I also was on metronidazole for womb infection.
Hope you get it sorted today, the pains I had with it were worse than labour! Goodluck
