Still in terrible pain after having the coil fitted 3 weeks ago, is this normal

I woke up this morning and up until about 1pm I honestly thought I was giving birth and did not know I was pg.

I have been bleeding for 22 days now and was in terrible pain. Went for a walk with the dogs after my morning shift at work and it has finally eased.

Is it normal to still be in this level of pain or do I need to see someone??

Thanks

Glad to see other replies. One note of warning though, the woman at the Family Planning Centre who inserted my coil, was unable to write me a prescription. I had to go my GP with a note from her requesting GP to prescribe me antibiotics. Crazy, I know. This was City and East London HA so may not apply to you. Definitely go and get checked out as sson as you can m'dear.
If the coil is meant to stop your bleeding, could you try a contraceptive pill instead? Friends tell me that that works for them or there'll be others on MN who could advise, I'm sure.

That is pretty bad imho. I would demand the works on Tue if I were you. Hope the weekend isn't too bad for you.

I had a mirena, and was in constant pain, I had in in for about 2 weeks, as I thought that the pain would ease. It didnt and aftre 2 weeks I couldnt stand it any more, and got it taken out.
They couldnt explain why it had been so painful, but it got better the moment the mirena was out.

singyswife · 07/03/2009 12:00

Well hopefully I can go to the gp on Tuesday and all is well and it is just 'settling pains'. I lost the plot this morning because the bleeding has been going on for a month now and it is showing no signes of easing. Cant do anything with my dh as I am bleeding and feel all horible and smelly and yucky. I woudl get the thing removed but I will bleed when they take it out too.

I also have thrush from using sanitary towels for a month. I am really feeling sorry for myself this morning.

If the Mirena doesn't work out for you, for whatever reason, you need to be very firm with them to get them to give you a referral for GYN to figure out why you are bleeding so much.

Mirena is a first line of treatment for a lot of conditions, but if it doesn't work there are other treatments out there depending on why you are bleeding so much and if you have already completed your family.

are you me?! i had mine fitted 3 weeks ago and have constant bleeding and severe pain since! I went to the docs about the pain and am being scanned for cysts on my ovaries, as we agreed the pain was not related. The bleeding is normal, even more so in my case as i only gave birth 3 months ago and my periods were eratic anyway, butthe pain sounds worriying. I agree it could be an infection, go to the docs asap.
Oh and i understand your reluctance to be checked while bleeding, but better a mall amount of embarresment than life threatening infection, and your doctor will have seen worse!

Hi, Serendippity, I hope you get to the bottom of your problem and feel better soon.

I had the coil inserted today and in a great deal of pain even with paracetamol and ibuprofen in my system. The docotor did not inform me before that i would bleed after and have pain! Really annoyed about that. Is it normal to have this much pain? I find a hot water bottle helps, but the pain killers im still getting pain.

jennywren26 · 19/10/2010 18:55

Don't give up just yet, I had horrid pains for about 24 hours and then they completely went. Take strong painkillers and get an early night if you can.

Got coil put in today found it extremely painful and collapsed afterwards due to pain. When will this ease down as I'm still really sore. Is this normal?

Tasha91x · 12/03/2016 14:01

Hi I got my mirena coil fitted 19 days again and have been in absolute agony ever since with lack of eating being sick hot flushes and dizzy spells I had a scan a week after insertion everything looked okay but things seem to just be getting worse. The pains are 10x worse than normal period cramps and I'm still bleeding some more days than others. Considering I got the mirena to try stop my bleeding and stop cramps I don't think it's normal wanted to see if anyone else has experienced similar issues?

Thanks x

Lollarosso · 29/03/2016 12:47

I had my mirena coil fitted 3 weeks ago and I'm in agony! It didn't hurt having it fitted slight cramps but now 3 weeks later I feel like I'm in labour!

Mazza3031 · 11/05/2017 20:21

Had my coil fitted today as first attempted came out!
But I'm scared it will do it again. I have a see though like discharge,is this normal? Or does it mean it's comeing away again even though I knew last time because the strings ended up been way to long.
