Bashed my head yesterday; feeling a bit odd

It happened about 3 o'clock. Took a diclofenac, dh made me sit down for a little while. Thought I was OK.

Today I have been feeling odd all day. It didn't hurt but I felt a bit disconnected, a bit like the start of a migraine. For some reason, I took another diclofenac in the morning and then felt OK.

I felt exactly the same about 4 or 5 hrs later, and took another diclofenac and felt OK again. But I've started weird again. Haven't take anything yet.

A friend has just been round and she says this isn't normal and I should get it checked out. I do weird feel weird. I can't really described it though. Maybe a bit vertiginous. I'm not sure my eyes are quite right, but I can't put my finger put on anything definite. And I don't have a headache or pain. I'm maybe a bit confused.

I've still done the shopping, cooking etc, so it's not like I'm incapable. It has just taken me rather a long time to work out what word I needed. I'm a little confused, I think.

Bumping for you (no pun intended!)

What did you bash it on Jux?

smartiejake · 28/02/2009 19:26

Sounds just like my DD when she was concussed last year. SHe actually didn't feel wierd until the day after.

When we saw the doctor he said it wasn't too bad as she hadn't actually lost conscientiousness or been sick but he described it as a bruise inside her head and she would take up to two weeks to feel ok again.
TBH I would get it checked just to be on the safe side but yed. do sound very similar to the way my dd described

smartiejake · 28/02/2009 19:28

sorry for typos

you do sound similar to the way my dd described.

Jux

I have been concussed at school after a rugby match and thought I was OK.

Had a bit of a head ache but the school nurse took one look at me asked me a few questiosn and said "you are going to hospital". The following day I felt exactly like you are saying. Kind of like an out of body experience.

This part of what you said is especially worrying:

"It has just taken me rather a long time to work out what word I needed."

That is exactly what I went through. Just could not make a simple decision about what words to use in a sentence. Talking nonsense apparently and very slowly.

On no account should you drive a car until you have seen a doctor and I would do it ASAP. Keep your husband with you and do not be alone with the kids.

Thank you. I had been pushing myself up the stairs using the wall and carrying something, as my legs were v weak (ms, happens a lot). I'd forgotton that on that side of the staircase there was a wide overhang and I just walked my head right into it, right on the top. I felt a right idiot, or I did once it'd stopped hurting

Oh dear. I've just read your post, ABetaDad. Luckily, I don't drive anyway. DH is in tonight. It's Saturday night, the poor NHS people are dealing with fights and drunks and god knows what. Surely if it's just concussion, it'll sort itself out given time?

I don't seem to be talking nonsense, but it does take me longer to work out how to say things, and I am experiencing big gaps while an ordinary word works it's way into my head, though.

I did have concussion once when I was a teenager. I couldn't be in the light and was in agony. This isn't like that at all. I'm very tired now.

I've just googled it and they say it should resolve itself in 72 hours. If I've still got a prob on whenever it is, I'll see my doc. Thank you all.

Thank you, ABetaDad, I'm back taking the pills and so I feel absolutely fine right now. Babbled a bit yesterday I see; apologies.
