am going to have one soon - just wanted to know what to expect and whether you can use roll on deodorant on the day (it says no talcum powder or spray on deodorant on leaflet) Thanks ! Am slightly anxious as one of my friends had breast cancer detected on a routine mammogram - obviously it's great that it was spotted and treated very quickly but one can't help but think what if they find something on mine...

Roll on deoderant is fine.
On arrival you are asked to remove all clohing above the waist and put on a gown.
You are then taken through to the room where it is done, the radiographer then picks up your breast and places it onto the mamography machine, the machine then squishes your breast(is uncomfortable but not painful)this lasts for about 30 secs while image is taken .
All together they take 2 images of each breast, one from the front and one from the side.

IMO the worst thing was how wierd it was having someone move my breast around as if they were just repositioning my hand( they are so used to it is not an issue for them)

Good luck, I am sure you will be fine

A bit like putting your tit in a mangle really only takes a couple of mins, i have family history of breast cancer, so i have the nhs one every three years and i pay for one inbetween, three years is far to long to go without checks as far as i am concerened.
