Advice needed....blood spots

So Ive got this dreaded cold that is going around, have had it for about a week. Coughing, sore throat, blocked nose, temerature etc etc, I woke up this morning and I have noticed tiny (pin prick size) blood spots on my body, arms & legs. The dont dissapear when pushed, but they arent in a cluster together, spread a few cm/inches apart. Theres not hundreds of them either, but enough to make me .

Ive called the doctors who are supposed to be calling me back, but Im guessing (hoping) I will get an answer on here before they do actually call back!

What do you think it could be? Is it just a rash because of the cold I have? I feel ill, but not really ill, if that makes sense.

Help.....

Hiya - i'm hoping yr gp came back to you as I only just saw yr post. This type of rash can just be viral but you should get it looked at - good luck.

They are called petchia (sp?), it's bleeding under the skin. Did your GP send you for a blood test?

Yes, they sent me for blood test, she thought it could be low platelet count....dont know really what that means or what has caused it, as only research on internet is to do with cancer or spots relating to meningitis...Im pretty sure I dont have either (well definatly not meningitis...Im still alive now!) Have to wait until monday for the results now, as GP not open over weekend!

There's loads of things that cause this, I have them on my arms, lots if them! All the blood tests came back clear so they are idiopathic (cause unknown). I've had them for years though so they don't go away. The blood tests will rule out things like a liver problem etc. Try not to worry too much, the chances are they are idiopathic, as a result of your virus. They always like to exculde things.

I've got hundreds of these, never noticed them until a couple of years ago, was scarey finding them all. Mine are still there, i'm assuming they are nothing bad as i'm still here and have had blood tests in pregnancy (i do have a low platelet count though).

Probably nothing to worry about.
