We had an accident last night and the condom was still inside me after sex It hadn't split or anything but I am terrified I may be pregnant which at the moment would be a nightmare I am thinking of getting the morning after pill but know nothing about it Has anyone taken it?I know it is very early but I have been up all night worrying Dp has gone to work without a worry in the world

oh dear
i took morning after pill 4 yrs ago - we had split condom and i went straight to gp next a.m. and got it. took it ................didnt work!!

got ds age 4 now, who has had medical problems when tiny and now dealing with problems stemmed from that (learning difficulties) but wouldnt change him for the world.

just have one massive regret - taking that damn pill.

trying not to put you off or encourage you - your decision at end of day. just letting you know my experience of that pill - not always guaranteed to work. gp did warn me. sorry. trying to be of some help.

happymerryberries · 14/04/2005 07:30

Go see your pharmacists today, this morning asap

incognito1 · 14/04/2005 07:51

does it make you sick?

OP posts:
elsmommy · 14/04/2005 07:58

I took it, it didn't make me sick - and it worked. But my friend took it, it made her sick and she found out 4 weeks later she was still pg. She lost the baby at 14 weeks - don't know if it was because of the pill..

FastasleepTheInsomniac · 14/04/2005 08:17

I was so nervous to take the morning after pill when I had to that I did some kind of lunatic asylum trick and spat it out later ... I've heard tales of them working very well though! If the condom didn't split and it didn't all er trickle out you should be ok anyway. I'd probably take the pill now, I was naive and silly back then!

incognito1 · 14/04/2005 08:21

it kind of was still inside me and I had to pull it out-sorry!The only other option is to fit a coil but had one of those before and not keen on that

incognito1 · 14/04/2005 08:58

i am off to my gp at 9.20 so will prob get the pill I am dreading it so much

OP posts:
debs26 · 14/04/2005 09:03

i have taken it, it is not something to worry about. might be wrong but think it is equivalent to a months dose of contraceptive pill. everyone has accidents. my gp didnt bat an eyelid

mummytosteven · 14/04/2005 09:04

i've had it and it was fine. these days its like a large dose of the progestogen only pill - it used to be like a big dose of the combined pill, and you were likely to feel sick with it, but since they've changed it you're less likely to have side effects

HTH

munz · 14/04/2005 09:06

I'm the same as charlie - didn't work for me either ended up m/c thou, I was really really sick on it as well. sod's law chance condom spilt pill didn't work, althou I don't know if it's cos I was sooo sick it didn't work.

would it be really bad if u were PG?

incognito1 · 14/04/2005 10:53

just got back and they have said because of other health problems I will have to have a coil fitted instead.I would love another baby but it is dangerous for me to proceed with a pregnancy so this is a double blow Local family planning have said they have no space for 2 weeks which is too late so back to gp now to see what can be done.Gp said unlikely I am pregnant as day 18/19 of cycle but there is still a chance This is a terrible day

OP posts:
FastasleepTheInsomniac · 14/04/2005 10:57

Aww incognito it seems so unfair that you'll have to get a coil when the chances of you getting pregnant are small! I hope they can think of something else!

aloha · 14/04/2005 11:05

what are your health problems? Think that sounds really bizarre. The dose is not large. It is actually the same as women used to take EVERY DAY when the pill was first launched. Lots of studies have shown that it does not harm unborn babies.

Toothache · 14/04/2005 11:12

Incognito1 - So they didn't give you the morning after pill????

Toothache · 14/04/2005 11:16

I had the mirena coil fitted 3 mths ago as the pill just didn't agree with me at all. It's been fine so far.

I don't think there are any medical risk to taking the morning after pill, I've taken a few times and never been told of any! Like Aloha said it's really just the same as the normal contrceptive pill, but slightly different doses.

My friend twice left it over 48 hrs before taking the MAP and now has 2 dd's!!

aloha · 14/04/2005 11:20

This is from the internet (excellent source)

Traditionally, many of the contraindications to combined hormonal contraception have been applied to progestogen-only contraception. Since the contraindications largely apply to oestrogen, this is inappropriate. In their Medical Eligibility Criteria, The World Health Organisation advises that the only absolute contraindications to high dose progestogen-only contraception are unexplained vaginal bleeding, current breast cancer, pregnancy, or hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the preparation.

Warnings and Precautions

Conditions which are regarded as relative contraindications include severe hypertension (BP>180+/110+), diabetes mellitus with nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy or vascular disease, ischaemic heart disease, stroke, or a past history of breast cancer. Since exposure to levonorgestrel with Postinor-2 is brief, the risks of pregnancy in all women, including those with pre-existing medical conditions, are almost certainly greater than those associated with Postinor-2. In individual cases, the risk-benefit ratio should be assessed by the practitioner in discussion with the patient.

incognito1 · 14/04/2005 11:22

I am on long term meds which interact with it My meds would stay in my system at higher levels than normal for longer than normal and can cause irreversible kidney damage so I am stuck really If I get this coil I am going to keep it as you can use it for emergencies and then remove it but I can't go through this again I have just got used to the idea of no more kids so this has just come at a bad time

OP posts:
Toothache · 14/04/2005 11:29

Incognito1 - A coild that you insert yourself whenever you need it?? Wow, never heard of that. What's it called?

incognito1 · 14/04/2005 11:32

sorry not remove it yourself!Have it removed by the doctor. What I meant is it doesn't have to stay in It has a similar effect on the uterus as the pill and once it has done that in theory you can have it removed again.

OP posts:
Toothache · 14/04/2005 11:50

So how long do you keep it in for? Is this to be used as the Morning After Pill would be used? When will they fit it?

Sorry... being really nosy here, just never heard of a coil being fitted as an emergency contraceptive instead of the MAP.

incognito1 · 14/04/2005 11:54

the doctor said I could have it put in any time up to about a week after possible conception and it would stop implantation. You can then have it removed after your next period if you don't want to keep it as a long term thing I have decided to keep it to avoid this sort of thing in future.I had one years ago and it was v effective but I don't want the mirena one just the normmal type

OP posts:
Toothache · 14/04/2005 11:56

That sounds ideal!

incognito1 · 15/04/2005 08:16

I am having the coil today at 11 I am dreading it in all honesty as the last one I had was inserted whilst having other gynae treatment 14 yrs ago and I was knocked out.Apparently not so bad if you have had kids but I never want to go through this worry again I haven't slept for 2 days.I am hoping being worry free will invigorate my sex life dp is getting a bit scared Thanks for all the replies Wish me luck

OP posts:
incognito1 · 15/04/2005 12:46

God what a to do due to my medical history they decided not to fit the coil as I didn't have time to have the iv antibiotic cover needed and so have now been given levonelle the pill.Have just taken it and am not sure what to expect Just hope it works

OP posts:
wild · 15/04/2005 12:51
