Fitness dlilemma - what machine to buy or gym membership?

Had to happen, need to exercise, should I buy a cross trainer machine or buy gym membership?
Am loathe to do either as am lazy arse but will use whichever I get. Promise.
So what's best? No exercycles, personal reasons
