Pain in lower back and side left hand side only

This has been going on for several weeks and it is particularly bad when I wake up in the morning.

It's getting to the point where I need to take painkillers. Will go and see GP soon but wondered if anyone had any idea what this could be.

General health is OK but I do have uactive thyroid (take medication) and also some large fibroids (wondered if it could be that pressing on something).

It does tend to wear off during day but is still there as nagging pain/pressure.

A tiny part of me is worried it is something really serious.

get a gp appointment and don't google it.
no point in stressing yourself out.

good luck

oops I already have googled it before I posted here but the answers were very non specific.

I will make appt though with GP.

nothing like googling health problems to make you anxious!

try not to worry

I had this a couple of years ago and they scanned me for kidney stones after I ignored the pain for a few weeks and ended up in a&e .

It came back inconclusive but I was given ab's and very strong painkillers .

I would go and see your gp soon I hope it gets sorted.

You may have a UTI .Which can linger around for ages and flare up then die down for a while.

sincitylover · 21/02/2009 21:41

yes would say it's in the region of the kidneys (or one of them) - it's not disabling by any means but painful nonetheless.

And does wear off during the day. It started after flu over Xmas and New Year.

I know it sounds daft but do you drink plenty during the day ?

I sometimes forget when I am rushing round and get a bit dehydrated whuch makes me feel really rundown and achey .

sincitylover · 21/02/2009 21:53

could prob drink more - am drinking mainly diet coke and tea bit of water. Plus have been hammering the wine a bit lately.

I do drink more water at work.

Have also been cycling quite alot recently (to and from work) which would require more hydration.

tea and diet coke are both diuretics which won't help with a uti/ kidney prob.

try drinking more water and see if that helps.

Very weird but woke up today and no pain. Seems too good to be true.

Will be monitoring it and drinking plenty. Thanks all
