elmoandella · 19/02/2009 14:45

right. using it for first time.

what am i doing wrong.

i have very very heavy period at worst then couple of days where it's practically nothing. on my heavy days it's really struggling. changing every 1-2 hr or its leaking. plus it doesn't seem to be sealing well.

and it keeps getting sucked up

no matter how low i put it where it's still comfortable(competely removed stalk) it seems to go upwards.

particularly if i get in car it goes up and then soon as i stand up it leaks.

also seems to pop open really hugewhen i put it in. the rim actually hurts as if pushing it open??feels as if it's actually too tight in the power part and "pops" up into the large section beyond the bone iykwim where its not hurting to press on bone.

where am i going wrong. thought you weren't supposed to feel it.

Bumping for you.

ridingjoker · 20/02/2009 13:45

i'm abut ready to give up with it. tried instruction booklet and webtsite. but nothing works.

it's definately not compatible with horse riding. my sister got new horse and had my first go today. thank goodness i had sani pad on as it was hopeless.disappeard up to the high heavens with all the pelvic floor action of trotting

Lusi · 20/02/2009 14:31

Have you tried e-mailing them (mooncup) and asking them?

I love my mooncup...but it took me a couple of months to be perfectly comfortable with it.

I think I wear mine too high up IYKWIM...I can't feel it... and also I twist it round after putting it in - supposed to increase the airlock or something!

As for leaking...
are you sure it is really leaking? I have found that you can't wear your best pants with one...if you think about it (too much detail here?) when you pull it out some blood will spill on your insides and then when you put back it won't push it all back or absorb it like a tampon - so you get dribbles. I find wiping myself after I put it back helps ...

Gosh just read that through and not sure if it makes any sense...I suggest getting in touch with mooncup...

BTW Which has done a survey of tampons etc - and they did a small trial with the mooncup -out of 7 women who tried it four would not go back to tampons...

ridingjoker · 20/02/2009 14:35

on my heavy days it is actually leaking. and squelches about.

tried twisting. it would work until i had to sit in car or hunker down to do something with kids.

on my lighter days it's not leaking. just not got the knack of getting it out without making a mess.

FlyMeToDunoon · 20/02/2009 14:37

sorry probably annoying.
Well I put mine in and then adjust it up and down once ot twice until it is quite far down but not so that you can feel it. I think that helps to seal it too. It does tend to 'disappear' and be higher up when I come to empty it.
I did have major leakage lying down in bed this morning-first full day.
Persevere m'dear. Hopefully some experts will be along shortly to give better advice.

ridingjoker · 20/02/2009 14:41

it hasn't ever had a major leakage. just seems to be seeping at sides when i do certain things thens seals on again iykwim.sucking up a bit as it does. as soon as i put it in it "pings up" and i have to fight it down and get it to seal?
tmi??

Catilla · 20/02/2009 14:43

I'd say if anything higher is better. If it feels too wide when it springs open that sounds like too low down. This would fit with having problems when sitting in car or riding.

When mine's not sealed properly I get a small amount of leakage, but nothing that's a problem for a panty liner (hate that name!). And it doesn't seem worse when I change position.

I go for push as high as you can, feel around the rim that's it's all open, then pull down with a little twist to get best seal.

Might be easier if you are squatting when you do it?, particularly for starting to remove it (though from experience def be sitting on toilet when you actually take it out.

When you think it has leaked and you remove it, is it full? I doubt it, after only 2 hours.

HTH, good luck. Don't give up yet!

ridingjoker · 20/02/2009 14:46

yeah. it was full full one time. on my heavy day i need to change super size tampon every 1-2 hr!!

i have tried it higher up. but it leaks then when i'm light.whereas when its lower and i'm not heavy it seems ok.

and as for the horse riding??thought they were supposed to be safe for sporting acticities? i definately couldn't use it for swimming?

FlyMeToDunoon · 20/02/2009 14:49

maybe you will need to experiment with different position at different times.

ridingjoker · 20/02/2009 14:51

or throw it away and go back to tampons.

FlyMeToDunoon · 20/02/2009 16:17
Sad
ridingjoker · 20/02/2009 17:09

its the sport thing thats annoying me. i also go to the gym. and sitting on cycling machine doesn't agree with it.or rowing machine

NorthernLurker · 20/02/2009 17:14

No advice - but bravo for trying. It all seems very complicated and the business of it popping open or 'disappearing up to the heavens' has got me very firmly clenched indeed!

Lusi · 20/02/2009 17:25

I also think higher up is better - I'm not very sporty - but have never noticed it moving around...

I might be wrong - but you should be able to use nothing and still be ok swimming - something about the water pressure - same as having a bath..never tried it -might be an old wives tale..

I would keep trying with your moon cup - once you get used to it it is great...

ridingjoker · 20/02/2009 17:27

i may use tampons for heavy times and cup for light times. will continue with this one and a few more periods. but for sport i think it will have to be tampons

asteamedpoater · 21/02/2009 13:27

Have you made sure the little holes around the cup are all properly open - ie stuck a pin through them to make sure they are all clear? The suction doesn't work properly if they are a bit blocked.

Any chance you could have a prolapse (sagging of the vaginal wall) that is making it harder to fit the mooncup in the right place???

And is the mooncup ever so full that it is obviously overflowing, or is the problem actually just the suction not being sufficient to stop leaking? I've been finding that bearing down a bit and then pulling up my pelvic floor and then checking the positioning of the mooncup again seems to get the mooncup to settle in the right place so that it doesn't leak, go too high or settle too low (after all, if you push down and pull up your pelvic floor muscles and it does cause the mooncup to move around, then you know you've put it in wrong!).

I can't think of anything else it could be, if you've already got the right sized mooncup. Perhaps it just doesn't work for some people.

ridingjoker · 21/02/2009 14:29

googled prolapse. pretty sure i dont have that.

but it did make me think about childbirth of dc1. he was huge and back to back. was tore inside and out. was stitched internal and external. and that was done badly and very tightly(as commented on by midwife when i went home) took about 8 months to heal completely.

i did plenty of pelvic floor exercises after both births. and assume they aren't in bad condition as dc2 who was also huge(9lb 15oz) came out in 6mins and 3 pushes. resulting in m/w commenting on "strong pelvic floor muscles"

but i wonder if it's to do with the internal stitch up job they did with dc1??

asteamedpoater · 21/02/2009 16:32

Well, I can imagine a ridge of hardened scar tissue could cause problems with the suction, although don't understand enough about how the suction process works to KNOW if this is the problem! It might well explain why the mooncup tends to ride up, though - maybe past the stitched up bit to where the surface of your vagina is smoother.

VinoEsmeralda · 21/02/2009 16:56

I have the same problem, on first 2 days there is leakage and when it is lighter it is absolutely fine.
Saying this, it used to be fine for the first 6-8 months(no leakage at all) but only in the last 6 months or so I seem to have this problem of leakage and it is driving me bonkers too.

I now use a reusable pad for the first few days as still prefer it to tampons or sanitary pads

CarGirl · 21/02/2009 17:02

On my very heavy days a always leak a little but I leaked far worse using tampons!

MayorNaze · 21/02/2009 17:04

do you have the right size?

phone/email them, they are very knowledgable and matter of fact. if you have it in right you shouldn't be able to feel anything at all, never mind any squelching type sensations?

ridingjoker · 22/02/2009 14:54

i have the right size.the a. i have given up for last day of period. stored moony away to try again next period.

ATherapist · 29/07/2018 17:21

I have a vertical septum, which prevents the moon cup sealing, hence tiling to the sides and leaking, so frustrating, and tampons leak, I do have a didelphys uterus, two uterus, do the flow has 2 exists. Hope this helps
