dd being tested for cystic fibrosis

Boco · 19/02/2009 12:31

I had a call from the hospital today asking me to bring dd for sweat test and more bloods as the consultant thinks she may have cystic fibrosis. She's 4 and has had pneumonia 5 times in the past few months.

They mentioned this in passing last October, but I assumed they'd dismissed it. We saw the consultant again last week and he mentioned that he wanted to do tests quickly, but wasn't really expecting this.

Feel rather panicked by the idea know nothing about the condition but assumed it was hereditary.

Has anyone else had testing for this? I probably shouldnt' even think about this until Tuesday, but hard not to.

Good luck - DS was tested for CF amongst many other things when he had had lung infection/pneumonia/lung collapse etc. Test was very easy and results straight away which was nice

Boco · 23/02/2009 23:18

Boco, hope it all goes well tomorrow.

Whenever there is a thread on CF I lick DD (!) becuase she had re-occuring problems with her chest, and a doc asked us if we were worried about cf... I wailed "well, now I am!".

Hope it all goes well

Thinking of you today. x

She doesn't have CF - was within the normal range, so, very relieved. We now have specialist nurse person we can call if we're worried, she said that CF was most pressing as she had a few markers but now there are a couple of other things to rule out, like certain immune disorders, and we'll get results of bloods in a few weeks - and if it's not those things either then it's just something she'll grow out of in time. So, big relief. Thanks for thinking of us. x

Oh that's great news Boco. What a relief. Put a bottle of wine in the fridge and enjoy a well-deserved drink tonight.

Hurrah, hurrah, hurrah, hurrah, hurrah. That is really wonderful news, boca.

Boco · 24/02/2009 15:26

Thank you
She was very pleased because they let her keep the little disk thing that had the tube inside to play with, and she marched up to an old lady on the way out who was sitting in a wheelchair and said 'would you like me to test your sweat at all?'.
