I'm in agony

I'm in absolute agony with period pains, can't remember them being this bad, I'm even starting to feel sick now with the pain.
I had the coil fitted 2 years ago and bleeding and pains have been getting worse, but this is nearly unbearable, I just want to curl up in a ball.

I am my desk at work in agony now, I have taken 2 x extra strength pain relievers at 9.15 and 2 x 400mg ibuprofen at 10.15, but all that has done is clear my headache.

I'm even scared to stand up in case there is an accident.

I feel so miserable

Have you got a temperature?

Tbh i would get thee to your gp or walk on centre. I think you need to be checked out if the pain is making you nauseous.

Dropdeadfred · 19/02/2009 10:44

go and get checked..can you still feel your coil wires?

Lovemyshoes · 19/02/2009 10:46

TBH I don't know if I have a temp (does that sound daft) I am at my desk, with a jumper on (I get very warm anyway) and I have window open at the side of me and a fan on in front of me full blast.

I cannot remember last time I felt the coil wires and have had 4 letters now about a coil and I keep putting it off I'm petrified of internals etc.

Is it the metal coil you have? If is the cause of the pain.i would change your method of contraception. There are enough options now not to have to put up with all the discomfort you describe.

I do think you need to see someone today though. Sending you one of those hugs we are not supposed to do on here. X x x

BennyAndSwoon · 19/02/2009 10:50

Get thee to a doctor.

If those painkillers aren't touching the pain I think you need to be seen

Lovemyshoes · 19/02/2009 10:52

Thanks, I'll try and get an appointment, though I don't hold out much hope.

idrankthechristmasspirits, it's the mirena coil.

Tiggiwinkle · 19/02/2009 10:58

Very unusual for the mirena to cause heavy bleeding and pain like that-it usually does the opposite.

You need to get checked out as an emergency if the pain is as severe as you say-go to A and E if your GP won't fit you in.

Idrankthechristmasspirits · 19/02/2009 10:59

Mirena is supposed to reduce bleeding as it releases hormones directly into the uterus. Something doesn't sound right.

If you cant get an appointment today go to your walk in centre. If you havent got a walk in centre then go to a and e. Dont leave this if you cant get in to your gp.
Internals are horrid but if you explain your fears beforehand they will be sensitive.

BennyAndSwoon · 19/02/2009 11:00

Isn't there a heightened risk of ectopics with the mirena?

I seem to remember getting a scan pretty damn quick when I was PG with the mirena coil

BennyAndSwoon · 19/02/2009 11:13

Have you called the doctor?

I agree - if you are in that amount of pain you need to be seen sooner rather than later.

BennyAndSwoon · 19/02/2009 12:13

How are you doing LMS?

Tiggiwinkle · 19/02/2009 13:47

Let's hope she is getting checked out...

BennyAndSwoon · 19/02/2009 16:35

Hope you are OK.

ForeverOptimistic · 19/02/2009 16:48

I have extremely bad period pain at the moment. I was sick this morning because the pain was so unbearable. When I was a teenager I was like this every month until I went on the pill. I have spoken to a couple of GP's over the years and they have just said that it is normal.

BennyAndSwoon · 19/02/2009 21:57

any news?

Lovemyshoes · 20/02/2009 13:09

It got too much, I was up with it all last night, I've been to the doctors this morning and he has put me on zydol four times a day as well as paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Hopefully I'll be able to sleep.

Thanks for all your advice ladies.

Glad your Doc has seen you

Did he have any idea what is causing it - the mirena usually makes things less heavy, rather than more?

Lovemyshoes · 20/02/2009 19:40

BennyandSwoon, he doesn't know what is causing it, and the mirena did make things less heavy at first but the past 6 months it's like I never had it fitted.

They are making me very drowsy, so, I am going to have something to eat, take some painkillers and go to bed and hope I sleep.

I have to make an appointment on Monday if no better and then when I have stopped bleeding have and internal and smear (which I keep putting off, dh found a letter today and has gone mad so is coming with me)

HOnestly I would have the coil taken out asap, I can't believe he hasn't referred you for a scan. Please if you start to get unwell go to A&E just in case x
