First period with a copper coil.

I had a coil fitted nearly three weeks ago. Everything I've read suggest that periods will be heavier and longer. I was due to start my first period on monday and have just had a small amount of spotting, so not at all what I was expecting!

Has this happened to anyone else. I am happy not to have the horrific period I expected but would like to know it's also normal for them to get lighter!

Bumping as this was about to drop out of unanswered after 24 hrs.

I had one fitted and my periods stayed exactly the same, some are skimpy and some are full on.

I would breathe a sigh of relief - but not expect the same next month as a given.

Thanks for the replies! Glad to hear it can be normal. Not so worried now, was concerneed that it had fallen out! Will still get it check for peace of mind.

Mine are not much heavier than before. Do check it yourself reg though....dd is a result of a copper coil becoming dislodged and dangling half in/half out.....

You're lucky. I stated bleeding the day it was fitted and didn't stop till it was removed 12 months later...not alwys heavy but enough to need to wear sanitary towels everyday

My first period after lasted about 9 days! (normally 3 or 4 days) but wasn't that heavy, just went on, and on, and on!

Hello

Another positive story. THink everyone is different....

I didnt have a heavy/long issue bleeding with the coil at all.. just a bit more soreness before my period started each month... but apparently that was due to the type of coil... had one with serrated arms to help it stay in place... which it did very nicely for 2 years. Then it was taken out and I was pregnant 12 days later

Definately the best form of contraceptive I've had and will have another after the birth of this little one..
