I have a large lump in my stomach on my right side very close to my hip. It is the shape and length of a banana but wider. I notice it more when my period is due. I have been to the doctors but he said he couldn't feel anything and it could be hormonal. What does this mean? A little bit more worried today as it is quite big and i am not due a period.

No idea what it is and know nothing about medicine but I think you should make a fuss and get your GP to check it out and not just say "it's hormones". You need not to be worrying.

Go to the GP in the morning. Or the walk in clinic if the GP can't fit you in. Make a fuss.

Thankyou for replies, i knew that i should make a fuss, but its reassuring to hear from other people.

Could it be your appendix? I think they can become swollen?

could be a hernia - where the intestine can 'poke out' of a weakness in the abdominal wall... usually appears as a roundish lump - but your's may well be a longer division in the muscular girdle

I'd go back to the gp - or at least have another poke about yourself. You can feel the muscular weakness even if there isn't a bulge... poke around there and see if your fingers dip beyond the muscle wall of your abdomen
