Has anyone had chickenpox as an adult?

Is it really horrible? I've heard it's a lot worse when you're an adult. I was tested for it when I was pregnant and found out I don't have any immunity to it. Now my DD is going to nursery and I'm sure at some point soon she'll get it and pass it on to me, I just want to know what it's like to have it, or maybe I don't!

I had it when I was 26 and pregnant. It was grim.

My poor DH got it last year -we have no idea where from (we assumed DS must have had a mild dose and passed it to DH, but DS actually got it a few weeks later, from DH!).

DH was SO sick - terrible pain, fever, weakness, awful stomach pains. He had more than two weeks off work and has lots of scars from the spots, although he didn't scratch them.

Get the vaccine!!!

DH got it a couple of years ago, and was given the antivirals, made a huge difference. I'll never forget DS running to kiss him, looking at DH's face, and screaming and refusing to kiss his daddy

It was awful - I had in my 30s. I had the spot inside and out. Still rember siting up all night dabbing Calamine Lotion on. A few scars left now. Fever, vomiting, itching. Lives in the nerve fibres for the rest of your life and comes out as Shingles.

I got it from my wife who caught it while we were on holiday in Argentina. She did not know she had it and just laid out sunbathing in really intense sun when the spots were just developing. She seemed to get rid of it in a week and we always wondered if it was the sunshine that killed it.

I got it at 35 when the dcs did; as far as I know never had it as a child, despite exposure. I only had 4 spots, all on my arse, and wasn't very unwell at all, no worse than having a cold.
