Sterilisation

I am booked for an elective c-section in two weeks time and have always maintained that I want my tubes clipping at the same time. This is due to a variety of reasons but mainly contraception. The only other form of contraception I can consider is the copper coil, and I don't fancy that as I have heavy periods anyway. I've tried the Mirena, the mini-pill (was on combined pill but had to come off due to migranes).

Anyway my questions is this - for those who have had it done have you had any adverse reactions or long term effects? heavier periods, worse PMT etc etc?

general advice is to have the clips done at least 3 months after a c/section, as the tubes are swollen and there is a risk that when they settle down, of pregnancy still being possible

i was sterilised 7m after my last child, which was 7 yrs in december, and have felt quite liberated by it.

my periods are heavier but shorter since i had it done

I had it done during my C-Section.I've had no problems whatsoever.

My periods are heavy in the first 2 days, and last 6 days or so.I think that as I'm 44yrs,this is more likely changes due to my age.

Best thing I did!

I was sterilised a year ago and it was the best decision I could have made. I have similar problems with hormonal conraceptives and migraines. I did have a copper coil for a year during which time I bled almost constantly. I had always had a very regular and quite light periods prior to this. It was a nightmare.I had it taken out at the same time as I was sterlised
My periods have not gone back to how they used to be before the coil but they are certainly better. I'm 46 so this probably has something to do with it too like Sawyer64 says.

Failure rate of sterilisation at C section is 1/50 compared to 1/200 usually. I would recommend leaving it a few months.

There is no reason why periods should be heavier or PMT worse, as the ovaries and uterus are untouched by the procedure.

Seriously, emma, 1 in 50!!! So, no better than a condom, really!
